Fires in France (MSM justified terrorist actions)
Washington Post ^ | Nov. 8, 2005 | Washington Post Editorial

Posted on 11/07/2005 9:03:37 PM PST by FairOpinion

THE RIOTS in France have provoked their own mini-storm of misinterpretation, outside the country and among some of the French. So it's worth noting what 12 days (so far) of car-burning, looting and occasional shooting in the poor suburbs of Paris, and now dozens of other towns, is not about. It's not the European version of an intifada: Islamic ideology and leaders play no role in the disturbances, and many of those participating are not Muslim. But not all the demonstrators are hoodlums and drug dealers either, as some senior French officials portray them; anger over high unemployment and racism has been building in these ghettos for years.

It's amazing how out of touch with reality journalists are...

BTW, he is also mispresenting Sarkozy's stand, who was the only one who advocated strong action, to nip the riots in the bud, but was viciously attacked for it.

I dont think there are any Muslims in France. The fires must be caused by spontaneous combustion. Or the Evil Right Wing Christians are plotting an overthrow. (/sarcasm)

The left is in DEEP crisis here. I doubt the French will do much of anything - but if they stay true to their leftist ideology, they'll ask for UN peace keepers.

Of course not.  They KNOW the truth but are in too deep now to admit they were wrong and GWB (and freepers, et al) were right.

They are fooling no one, however.  We all know what's going on.

John Kerry really won the election, everything is Bush's fault....

The list goes on and on.

Are all of these MSM losers smoking the same crack?

What a bunch of mindless gibberish from the WP. No wonder their circulation is tanking.

Where's the plan? Where's the exit strategy? Will the Muslim Insurgency er, underprivileged people's riots be over before Christmas? Can't we just give them all credit cards?

(I for one, think the timing is suspicous)

It's only on FR that you see mention of "the French youth" burning churches, too.

I doubt that before 9/11, the WP ever understood that an Islamist ideology existed. That religion could ever drive a movement that cannot be reduced to political goals seems to them an impossibility. They are more tolerant of authentic religous fanaticism than they are of the supposed "theocratic" views of the "Relgious Right."

If this keeps up the French government is going to pass a really sternly written resolution that will condemn the violence.

"Islamic ideology and leaders play no role in the disturbances"

Reality is to a Washington Post editorial as fashion sense is to a color-blind hooker.

This editorial is really incoherent. It goes from "Islamic ideology and leaders play no role in the disturbances, and many of those participating are not Muslim" to "It's no longer reasonable to pretend that the poor Muslim descendants of North Africans in crowded housing projects are indistinguishable from all other French." What a mess.

The implication is that they are not rioting because they are Muslims and hate us, but because they are poor Muslims downtrodded by the French. So it's all France's fault for not handing enough things to these poor Muslims on a silver platter.

But not all the demonstrators are hoodlums...

Here we see an example of the WP trying to sanitize this. By their implication, all the "hoodlums" are merely "demonstrators".
