French police made 395 arrests last night as riots intensified for the 11th consecutive night, with violence and fire engulfing towns from the North to the Mediterranean.
In the impoverished suburbs and satellite towns around Paris, where the unrest began on October 27, churches, schools and warehouses were set alight. At least 1,408 vehicles were destroyed, many more than on previous nights, and the random attacks have spread into the heart of the city.
In Grigny, south of the capital, a gang of around 200 youths are reported to have lured police into a housing estate before opening fire with hunting rifles. At least 30 officers were injured, two seriously with lead pellets in the legs and neck.
Riots broke out in beacons of disaffection across the country from Lille, on the border with Belgium, to Montpellier on the Mediterranean coast. In Toulouse, police used tear gas to disperse a mob. Cars were set alight on the streets of Nantes, Orleans, Rennes and Rouen, and youths in St Etienne forced passengers off a bus before burning it. Churches were set ablaze in northern Lens and southern Sete.

In Strasbourg, youths stole a car and rammed it into a housing project, setting the vehicle and the building on fire. "Well stop when Sarkozy steps down," the defiant 17-year-old driver told an Associated Press reporter.
Police are calling for a night-time curfew in affected areas and some senior officers have demanded that troops are brought on to the streets.
Michel Gaudin, France's most senior police officer, said today: "We are witnessing a sort of shock wave that is spreading across the country."

I just listened to some French twit on the BBC saying that the youths were all French born and they had no jobs and nothing to do, so they HAD to pick up sticks and stones and throw them at the police blah blah blah.
It just makes me sick. My parents grew up in the Great Depression. These 'youths' do not even come close to living in the degree of poverty that my parents lived in. My parents had no welfare or government health care. My parents had no electricity or even running water in their homes. I guess Momma and Daddy didn't realize that all they could do was pick up sticks and stones and throw them at the police. My father became a police officer!
Being poor is no excuse for a lack of morals. Nothing gives you the right to hurt innocent people and ruin their property. The scum burning everything belong in jail. The scum that are shooting and trying to hurt people belong in the morgue.
I dont understand the total lack of coverage indicating any police action.
Are the riots so bad that the police is incapacitated?
The french need to call out the military right away in such a case. Dithering any longer is just plain criminal on the part of the govt.
What your French collegues are essentially saying is that there are only two choices for France: submission or extermination
I read Vicomte's explanation of the riots, of course there is going to be an economic component, but to ignore the culture of radical islam component(i.e all non-muslims are infidels) is disingenous, IMO.
Good catch. I guess THIS is why I was snowed.
From V13: "Those shots could have killed somebody, but clearly there's not a mass, armed movement going on here."
A little less than honest if you ask me.
There's still no curfew?!?
Not unless you are OK with bowing toward Mecca 5 times per day.
Disingenuous? I'll say.
What I find interesting is the confluence of media ignorance.
The police were not shot at with 'hunting rifles' they were shot with a birdshot loaded shotgun. Huge difference....and the reason that there were wounds rather than fatalities.
They're getting around to a curfew, after all it's only day 12. /sarc
Seriously, I wonder if they aren't more concerned they won't be able to enforce a curfew should they try to establish one. Especially at this 11th hour.
And no mosque's are being burned down. Also on Saturday night an incindiary device was thrown at a Synagogue in France.
The press is clueless.
When does night time begin in France? How long from now?
Well, a curfew would still be a good idea. It would give parents another tool in controlling their kids. It might keep the snots off the streets and out of the line of fire, leaving more time and manpower to deal with the more dangerous types, the ones who don't get off on just tossing a couple of rocks.
Considering the hosing that Disney has been taking on this park (it has never been in the black)They would probably take the insurance settlement and run gleefully for the next plane to orlando.

Find some way to broadcast French films to the rioters nonstop. They'll all committ mass suicide in a matter of minutes. Problem solved!
When will the MSM make this a top story? When the Republic falls?
Above-fold treatment undercuts MSM's war against GW. Don't hold breath.
**"Morale within the police is at zero, and I am very pessimistic that the situation can be resolved without a major reinforcement of security"**
Wow they really ARE going to surrender!
Wait a minute here.

BB guns? I mean, I read the word, "hunting rifles" and thought, "Oh man, it's hitting the fan." Called my mom. She sat at the couch, listening. Then I find they were shot with pellets? Europe. [Snort.]
