CAMARILLO, Calif. (AP) - Retail gas prices plunged an average of 23 cents nationwide in the past two weeks, marking a return to pre-Hurricane Katrina levels, according to a survey.

The weighted average price for all three grades declined to $2.45 a gallon on Friday, said Trilby Lundberg, who publishes the semimonthly Lundberg Survey of 7,000 gas stations around the country.

Self-serve regular averaged $2.43 a gallon nationwide. The price for midgrade was $2.53, while premium-grade hit $2.63.

The average pump price for all three grades on Aug. 29, the day Katrina made landfall on the Gulf Coast, was $2.65, according to the survey.

The lowest average price in the nation for regular unleaded among the stations surveyed was $2.06 a gallon in Tulsa, Okla. The highest was $2.74 in Miami

Prices are around a dime less than those averages, here in Atlanta. Prices really spiked here, due to Katrina.

I was just in the area about 2 weeks ago, at the Westin. Visited the Patton museum and did the tram while I was there.

Here in the College Station area, gas got as high as $2.97 but now it has dropped to as low as $2.28.

Will we ever see it drop below $2.00?

Haven't dropped jack up here in Fairbanks. Still near $2.80. I'm starting to get PO'd.

This can't be. As we all know, pursuant to the Big Oil/Halliburton/Cheney/evil neo-con conspiracy, gasoline prices can only go up.

Yep, watching the MSM, one would think it was still $3.00 a gallon.

Am I supposed to be dancing in the street? There's another dollar per gallon to go before I'll get worked up.

"Will we ever see it drop below $2.00?"

I paid $1.94 for unleaded today at the Sam's Club in the Des Moines, IA area! Looks like most stations there were charging $1.97.

We had $3.49 in Rochester NY. It's only now down to 2.69. You think it'll ever hit 2.50?

It got down to $2.09 here.

Now back up to $2.15.

If it goes back up, there isn't a good reason for it except price gouging.

Going through central Illinois the other day I paid $2.17/gallon.

Still about $2.40 in the Chicago area.
