Washington, D.C.
After many, many months of being a punching bag, the punching bag is ready to fight back. Republicans believe it is long overdue.
On FOX NEWS SUNDAY this morning, Brit Hume reported that he was told at the highest levels that the White House was finally going to engage the Democrats. They will be coming out with a defense of the war in Iraq.
On this forum and around the blogosphere, Republican loyalists have been wondering why the President has allowed the Democrats to get away with calling him a liar. There is a wealth of evidence justifying the war, including 500 tons of yellowcake uranium discovered in Iraq in March of 2003 at the nuclear research center of Al-Tuwaitha. 1.8 tons was enriched. That is not Betty Crocker yellow cake. Hussein wanted a bomb. And yet, a majority of our population does not even know about that find.
The Democrats are doing exactly what they said they would do in their secret memo that was captured by a Republican staffer. They are using the war for political purposes, while they are pretending it is not for political purposes.
If the President will light a fire under his team, support for the war will increase, perhaps dramatically. The President owes it to the troops who have sacrificed and to those who are still out there risking their lives everyday. Step up, Mr. President.
Correct, wait until the Democrats are just complete obvious bumbling idiots...as is becoming increasing obvious to those outside FR...and then capitalize.
It would be welcome. I won't hold my breath.
The press and the Democrats were not rightfully invested with the trust of the people - the GOP was - and they shouldn't be calling the shots.
"... 1.8 million tons was enriched ...."
Considering that's enough uranium for about 20,000,000 atomic bombs, that's got to be a misprint. (drop the word "million")
If true, and I don't doubt that it is, then the Bush WH has been derelict in their duty to make their case ... long before now. If this is some rope-a-dope strategy on the WH they should have exploded with the knock out punch earlier in the bout. They've waited to long ...

>> When the chamber reopened about two hours later,
>> Frist named a bipartisan task force to report on
>> the intelligence committee's progress.
But he was pissed, and what the Dems got was content-free.
> It would seem that the Dems won again and forced
> the Pubbies to cave.
I'd like to think not. The Senate has historically been
very demanding that its members observe the decorum.
The rule 21 gambit was essentially a single-shot pistol,
and its unannounced use violated the decorum. There may
be consequences for the Dems, and we may not see obvious
public connections, like ...
... Frist privately encouraging the WH to squash these
roaches.
Same here... I don't believe this for one second. And we all know that the President isn't the greatest orator... so who are they going to send out in front of the cameras? Heh...
Sadly, I don't think they've found the closet yet.
What has changed?
I've never heard the White House raise this point, and for the life of me, I can't understand why especially since the the Democratic response would either have to be that a) 9/11 taught us we should wait for live threats against our troops to escalate until they become existential in nature or b) Hussein was justified in firing missiles at our troops.
>>What exactly was Bush and Co. expecting to gain by starting a war under false pretenses.<<
Oil
That's why our gas prices are so low.
500 tons is 1 million pounds. What does the "1.8 million tons" refer to? Enriched uranium?
Wonderful news!
Now lets see it happening starting this week -
I think it was s'post to be 'metric tons'
We can only hope.
I saw part of that too but you have to remember that they truly enjoy speculating and spinning. Catherine Cryer is about the most useless anti-Constitutional POS that ever was. I don't believe these trolls at all.
What "situation with Rove"? LMAO. Oh..the one they WANT and PRAY FOR. Aha.

I hope this is true, because all the facts and stats are on our side. Why these guys have just been sitting back allowing the demonrats to run their mouths unchallenged I will never understand. And they've done it on everything from Trent Lott to the War to the Plame thing. I just don't get it.
I am not sorry that the administration has waited.
I admire the fact that they are patient and wait until they know exactly the nature of what they are facing (to the best of their ability) before they strike back.
In a situation like this, it would be awfully easy to panic and just go out and thrash at it, which makes them very prone to mistakes. It is much more effective to wait until you see the whites of their eyes, so to speak.
Again, misunderestimate them at your own risk. And when their back is against the wall, they are much, much better at it.
I can't wait to see what happens next.
