Just got word from my daughter stationed at McChord they are evacuating. EOD on base. Anyone one else heard anything?
LOL! Just like a dad, huh? Nothing to worry about, mawm, just go back to bed. Sorry, but I'm a mom (of a soldier) and hubby wouldn't even get out of bed unless I convinced him the house was on fire, or the bomb really HAD gone off.
It may be a drill. The Navy pulled this stunt when I was stationed in Orlando. There was a box "with strange wires". The entire high rise barracks was evacuated...for hours. It was a drill. I was steamed. They wanted to see how fast we could exit the building.
BUMP for later viewing. Hope all is OKAY.
My dad is the greatest. Im only 20, and ive been in for almost 3 years, so he has been there since day 1 of signing the papers. I am still trying to figure out whats going on...but as long as i am still on base i know we are all safe so no worries out there. we are back in our rooms. be back shortly...
That's exactly how we handled what we thought was an explosive device on my ship back in Viet Nam. I hadn't realized we were actually being professional.
Might not. I live about 20 miles northeast of the McChord/Fort Lewis area.
This last summer, I kept hearing these low "thud" types of sounds. Not really booms, just very low thuds. Sometimes, they were so intense, they would shake my house!!
Turns out, they were doing some kinda artillery testing.
Thins that go boom in the night ping...
yea they do bomb drops all the time out here. this is were Tac Ps (special forces) train. its annoying at night. I live on base so its 10 times louder!
Bttt
bttt???????
Yeah, but on the plus side, I was coming up I-5 one day and saw, what is it, a C5 Starlifter doing touch and goes?
Man, that is one piece of machine!!!
If you were immitating the average EOD team professionalism was out the window. But what was important, you had a good time doing it.
DawnAFB doesn't come up on FR. I wonder why?
Thanks for your service. I never figured out what was going on for 22 years. Read "Catch 22", it tells the truth.
Bump To The Top (if you are using the latest posts view, it keeps the thread at the top of the list...)
c-5 is the galaxy...c-141 is the starlifter which was retired a few years back. here on mcchord we have the c-17 globemaster..the second largest cargo aircrsft...next to the C5...the C5 can carry outsize and oversize cargo at intercontinental ranges..huge beast!
My office on our base was right next to the EOD office. I wasn't to thrilled about that bit of info, but I did learn the difference between an ordinance and an ordnance.
Those EOD guys are funny fellows. Their task was to do controlled demolition of concrete guard towers on Guam. Their idea was to use larger C-4 charges on two of the four pillars. The intent was to flip it over so the tower's rubble would be easier to remove. That didn't happen. The tower fell straight down. The explosion also caused minor cracks on the new section of our building. The only other damage was a door was blown open by the concussion and wouldn't close after. The door to the munitions squadron commander's office. Had to call base civil engineering to fix it, and they weren't coming out on a Saturday. For those who don't know, he's EOD's commander and wasn't happy.
how do i bump to the top... :) my service is an honor i wish i could keep going longer...but i was injured in the line of duty and i am being medically discharged. but i have never been prouder...
