After yesterday's press conference in front of The Washington Post building in downtown Washington, D.C. that criticized The Post for violating their sourcing guidelines and for accessing a FreeRepublic.com account in possible violation of the Electronic Communications Privacy Act, an editor for The Post is now claiming authorization to log-in to the account of MD4BUSH.
Earlier this week, Post Maryland editor R.B. Brenner made statements that reporter Matthew Mosk had logged in to MD4BUSH's account "two or three times" after being given the password by an "intermediary" in order to authenticate private messages sent between MD4BUSH and NCPAC on Free Republic.
Brenner has maintained that The Post does not know who MD4BUSH is.
Brenner is reported to have made the following statement to The Post for their story today about the press conference:
"As part of our reporting, we needed to verify that the chat room postings were authentic. We were authorized to view them, and it was appropriate to do so under the circumstances."
Link to Post article here.
Because MD4Bush works for the DNC and the DNC's lawyers and/or political director provided the password? Or the MD Democratic State Committee or the O'Malley campaign?
But the investigation will go nowhere. I still want to know about the likely DNC/Kerry campaign connections to last year's forged documents. That's far more important the Dan Rather's scalp, but unless I missed something, it's all been swept under the rug.
btt
I'm trying to follow this story. Is it either obvious or am I just way behind..... to assume that an associate in the next cubical on a Post-owned computer left the screen up (and accessible) would consitute Mosk being given permission?
That's how the press claims to have identified Buckhead; same method.
Never mind : ) I see that's obvious, going down a few more posts.
For Liberals, the end always justifies the means.
The paper that brought down Richard Nixon has truly become the thing it professes to hate.
When I first followed this story, I thought NCPAC was an NC State fan and MD4Bush was a doctor. I suppose I shouldn't admit that. I am now much closer to understanding this topic, actually, LOL.
And now your link about Geneva.
I don't know if this is anything, and you may already know this, but it's interesting so I thought I'd offer it.
Geneva's sister Nan is past prez of Wellesly AND Duke and a member of the Harvard (University) Corporation. She is a scholar of politcal philosophy.
I was wondering why MD4BUSH was Private Messaging me x-rated messages. This explains it. It was the Post employees.
I guess we could claim someone (third party) gave us access to Jim's password to see personal notes and could post them on the forum for all see.
but I think I forgot to put a space in it, so it didn't show up. I am proud Jim values our privacy (he has more class/character in his little finger that WAPO has)
Speculation of course, but one has to wonder if the "intermediary" could possibly be someone on the Baltimore Sun's payroll - perhaps
Michael Olesker or David Nitkin?

I can't go back and check, but I remember that the Sun's website had the story within minutes of the WaPo posting. Drudge also had it very quickly. I believe that it was initiated by reporters, not some independent person who just happened to contact Matt Mosk.
G'mornin'.
Yep, I knew the rumor-mongering had come from MD4BUSH himself. It just kills me how the WaPo and others with an early "break" in the story didn't have the integrity to scatch their heads over what NCPAC posted in response to obvious prodding by MD. Welp, the story wouldn't exist if the guilty parties in the press had integrity to begin with, but you know what I mean...
I'd love to see all the comms between MD and NC (public & private) arranged in chronological order by date stamp/time. As you can imagine, I don't trust the press to do this with any reliability. Privacy freak that I am, I respect Jim's refusal to set a precendent, so I'll sit back smugly and see if they have the nerve to call a subpoena. :o)
BUMP!
Let's face it -- the brightest students don't go into Journalism! Most of them can't even write good English, which you would think would be sine qua non.
The ones we found weird coincidences about are bolded in red in the reply below. With the new one found by maica on "Baltimore," we're now up to 5 "coinkydinks."

I have no knowledge of another thread on FR that has been pushed by drive-by posters like that one. Could someone have learned that Steffen was a Freeper and the attempt at dragging him in have started last summer?
JimRob will know from where the posts were made - how many different computers were used for the onetime posters.
Man, you're not kidding. Talk about your "drive-by poster." You and GOP_1900ad and CollegeRepublican did a great job of sniffing them out way back then.
Here they are. All these screen names are active (i.e., they haven't been banned), they have nothing on their home page, and, with the exception of MD4BUSH, they've only made one post. They haven't posted anything since this thread.

Now, here are the "coincidental connections" that were discovered for the screen names above that are in red. They may be nothing more than simple coincidence, who knows.

And also note that not only did they post on the one thread, they all opened their FR accounts within one week of each other (last week of July 04) - some on the same day.... The statistical odds of that happening by sheer coincidence on a single thread of just 100 posts are beyond calculation.
Yeah, well, I have another "statistical anomaly" for you. Well, I don't, but someone who FReepmailed me does.
From my post at 192: One of the suspects is "genevaz."
On a purely unrelated topic, I'm sure, how do you pronounce the "s" in the last name of "Overholser?" That's not a name that sounds very familiar to me.
You know... for example, as in "Geneva Overholser" of the Washington Post.
Not that I'm insinuating anything, of course. Coincidences like this happen all the time, I'm sure.203 posted on 11/05/2005 11:50:04 PM CST by shutup_you_idiot

And finally, readers can go read post #224 by Quilla, who compiled all of their replies in one spot to show how similar they were.
O'Doherty was clearly involved in publicizing Steffen's comments, but the facts do not (yet) demonstrate that he was MD4Bush.
Thanks Quill, I continue to see patterns in the MSM of creating news. I see on Meet the Press this morning a roundtable of journalists quoting polls of how Bush is in such trouble, yet never mention that the sampling of those polls was weighted with 20% more Dems than Reps and if someone claims to be independent, they are more likely to be Dem than Rep. These polls are always skewed and the Media knows it - and the public is becoming aware of it.
I also see "unnamed white house sources" and ananymous sources which seem to say exactly what the media wants them to say. I see the MSM and the Dems intentionally misleading the public about Fitsgerald's investigation, who called for it, and what his finding were - as reported to all of the MSM in front of them and live to the entire country. Yet they continue to mislead.
The MSM is no more than "Hollywood in Fishwrap" and the Republic will fall if we do not have a journalists who will be accountable to truth rather than spin. The Republic will fall because a smaller portion of us get our news from them and eventually the remainder of those who inhale the left spin will be forced to leave the country - as we continue to defeat them more and more at the ballot box and in the courtroom.
