AN OBSCENE OMISSION (NY POST SLAMS NYT)
NY Post through Yahoo News ^ | 11/4/05 | NY POST EDITORIAL

There is saintliness in a soldier's prospective acceptance of an honorable death in combat. To diminish such a deed, especially in service of a political agenda, approaches sacrilege. ADVERTISEMENT

So it was with the manner in which The New York Times last week noted the death of Cpl. Jeffrey Starr, USMC, of Snohomish, Wash., who was killed in Ramadi on April 30 during his third tour of duty in Iraq.

The young Marine's death was a centerpiece in the Times' coverage of America's 2,000th combat death in Iraq.

The newspaper's overview of the war is no secret: To hear the Times tell it, Americans are being slaughtered for no reason in an unjust war.

To bolster its argument, the Times last week publicly slandered the memory of a genuine American hero — Cpl. Starr.

In a profile of multiple-tour vets, the Times wrote about Starr — who served in the First Battalion of the Fifth Marine Regiment — and quoted from a letter to his girlfriend found on his computer after his death. "I kind of predicted this," it read, referring to his death. "A third time just seemed like I'm pushing my chances."

There it is — dark, foreboding, pessimistic, without any suggestion that he believed he was in Iraq for a valid purpose.

But, as columnist Michelle Malkin disclosed on these pages two days ago, after hearing from Starr's family, there was more to his letter — much more.

The "left" has no honor.

The troops are being MURDERED. They are not dying, they are not being killed.

Now....who is it that is murdering our troops and innocent civilians, including children?

It is Time that we stop calling the New York Times a "newspaper."

It is just like the other grocery store rags with two-headed alien stories.

Free Republic should just start calling it what it is, ...

... the NYT Tabloid Magazine

MediaPost Article IT'S OFFICIAL: 2005 WILL BE the newspaper industry's worst year since the last ad industry recession. And things aren't looking much better for next year either, according to a top Wall Street firm's report on newspaper publishing. "Sadly, 2005 is shaping up as the industry's worst year from a revenue growth perspective since the recession impacted 2001-2002 period," says the report from Goldman Sachs, adding a warning that meaningful growth in 2006 is "very unlikely."

About once a month I get a call from a telephone solicitor asking me if I want to subscribe again to the local paper – the Hampton Roads Daily Press, owned by the Chicago Tribune. Every time I ask if they are out from under the Tribune yet and has the editorial staff been fired.
The young person always chuckles and usually says something to the effect, “I wish”.

What's the difference between the NY Times and toilet paper?

Both are made from recycled paper, but the toilet paper is actually useful.

They deserve to go bankrupt.

They deserve to be arrested for giving aid and comfort to the enemy during times of war!

If tabloids can get sued by "stars" for slander, why not a tabloid like the NYT when it slanders a fallen hero?

Heard Trump 2 weeks ago slam the NY Slimes. Says their Business section isn't worth reading.

Exactly. If they want to improve their sales (and credibility) all they need to do is switch to a tabloid format and start selling in grocery store checkout lanes.

"If they wrote and published anything even remotely pro-American they think they might be viewed as being Government Stooges."

I agree but what these morons don't get is that America is the people, not the government.

I am not one to promote violence, but if that had been someone in my family, some folks would be receiving a visit.

Every single time there is an article here about the New York Times it should be DEMANDED that every member cancel any subscription, stop any purchase, ask all relatives to stop their purchases or subscription, and the same with friends and colleagues.

We must drive the NYT out of business. Just jawboning here about the NY Slimes is not good enough. We have the power to spread the word to do whatever possible against sponsors of the Slimes and to NEVER support the Slimes with any purchase.

DRIVE THEM OUT OF BUSINESS!

I think we should remember the name of the reporter who did this, James Dao.

James "beau-coop dinky" Dao

I heard the whole thing read on-air Friday - it was a spectacular letter and in no way represented what the Slimes attempted to portray. I am outraged!
