Actual polling numbers: Conservative 31%, Liberal 28%, NDP 20%, Bloc Quebecois 13%, Green 7%. That would translate into a Conservative minority government, with about 110-125 seats compared to 90-105 for the Liberals, 57-65 for the Bloc, 25-35 for the NDP and perhaps a Green.

After the way the Tories screwed up the initial Gomery reaction in the spring, I have my doubts they can take advantage of this.

I see you folks in droves on our freeways every day.

Hey, we're pulling for ya up North! I've said it before and I'll say it again: We'll spend a lot more time (and money) up there once you guys elect a Conservative.

We're trying!!! The MSM will be angered once there is a Conservative government though...knowing that their beloved Libranos will be exposed and obliterated in the following election...

What I find the most depressing here is...

7% Green Party. OK, despite what is wrong with the Liberals (plently), the NDP is much much worse. So take the absolute TAINT that is NDP, and then jump even further left into fairie dust land and you find the Green Party. At 7%. A Green-NDP alliance would threaten both the Liberals and the Conservatives. Given the socialist tendencies of the Bloc, such an alliance would likely draw some from them as well.

I am willing to say that the majority of Liberal supporters are simply being fooled, and are otherwise ok. Otherwise they would be with the NDP and Greens. They just keep voting Liberal because they think that is all they can do, that their hands will fall off if they vote differently. Given this generous view, "only" 40% of Canadians are entirely ****ed up.

7% Green Party. 20% NDP. People who think the Liberals are too conservative. It boggles the mind.

Could you explain what the result would be if those numbers hold? The conservatives would still not be in power right? Probably same prime minister?

Green at 7% = at the most 1 seat, all it would do is split the left even more to allow the Conservatives to win. Also there is some fracturing going on in the party, as many Green members complain the party has gone too far to the right...

Conservatives would have a minority government.

"The Liberals' minority government depends on support of the NDP"

Great, the Liberal socialists depend on the NDP socialists. And now that gay marriage has come to Canada all the socialists should all be satisfied and in bed with each other... You know, sex ed. classes in Canada will be about teaching the proper and safe way of inserting a penis up the ass (I say that seriously)... but hopefully the Canadians are smarter than listening to a party that has given them that and more. Corruption and safe, state sponsored sodomy from the Liberal Party... God, what more can we ask for!

Don't worry about what they think. Stay focused. Nominate someone from the equivalent of Texas (Alberta?) ;-)

"Nearly two-thirds (63 per cent) still find Martin's offer to call an election after Gomery's final report more appealing than an immediate election call. Only Bloc voters appear to want an immediate election."

Amazing. It's like saying, "Yeah we know our government is corrupt and screwing us, but lets have them run the country anyways."

Mind you, I'm not saying it's any better in the USA. The mindset just baffles me.

It strikes me that Canada is heading towards being rather ungovernable. The fractures are more numerous than the quake lines in California, and unlike California, they all seem to be active.

If the Greens and NDP ever formed a majority or plurality governing body, we'd have to build an electic fence along the Canadian border.

Oh, at the provincial level they (it is actually the NDP) were once in government in Ontario and BC, while they are currently in power in Manitoba and Saskatcheswan.

This is a country where the far Left has enough power to govern on its own in some places.

The Liberal Party will recover and be returned to power in yeat anotehr landslide in Feb 2006. There are just far too many socialists on the Left and High Tories on the Right in Ontario to prevent the Liberals ousted from power. Then the fun can start: Alberta starting separatist movements.

Then I can't say what will happen to your country in five years time.

At the moment there seem to be riots everywhere - France, Denmark, Thailand, Argentina - do you thing this could see a swing to parties of the centre and right?

Things may change for the better, but I don't think things will happen in Canada unless a major terrorist attack is carried out in Toronto or Montreal. English Canada may actually wake up to the cause if half of London is gone in a terror attack (the Tories in English Canada still maintain a sentimental allegiance to Mother Britain, while the conservatives out in Western Canada are already on the train long ago).

But I don't my breath as to whether it will ever happen.

Oh, I know the NDP has managed to sink its fangs into a few provincial governments... Then, of course, you have to wonder if they could really be that much worse than Grits have been at the federal level. They already look as ethical and upstanding as most of your post-colonial African governments.
