Family members are investigating what they consider to be suspicious circumstances surrounding the death of a nursing home patient at the center of a life and death tug-of-war reminiscent of the Terri Schiavo tragedy.
Seventy-nine-year-old Jimmy Chambers died in the early morning hours of Oct. 24 after the tracheotomy tubes that deliver oxygen from a ventilator to a hole in his neck became unhooked. Family members were told Chambers, a resident of the Anne Maria Rehabilitation and Nursing Center in North Augusta, S.C., apparently pulled the interlocking tubes apart.
"We're having it investigated. We're just incredulous," Chambers' daughter, Deanna Potter, told WND in reference to her siblings. "The last time I saw dad he was blowing me a kiss. I blew him one and he blew one back."
The retired dispatcher for Holland Motor Express died approximately 10 hours later. His death certificate indicates he died of "natural causes."
"Apparently, suffocation is a 'natural cause' when you're on a ventilator. We're contesting that," said Potter. "He suffocated. He didn't just pass away. He struggled and fought. And I'm just so angry."
Potter estimates it would have taken 10 to 14 minutes for her father, deprived of oxygen, to fall unconscious, and questions why the nursing home staff didn't come to his aid.
"The oxygen-saturation meter and his ventilator both would have had alarms going off. Four-thirty, five o'clock in the morning you'd think someone would hear this," she added. "That's the thing that really bothers me and makes me suspicious."

I think there may be Schiavos in New York. Just thought I'd put it on the thread in case anyone wanted to investigate that possibility.
If anyone knows any media, please get June Maxam's urgent news re: her dad to the media. Thanks, FV
Here's a link to the Glens Falls, NY newspaper, where Eden Park Health is, if anyone wants to e-mail a letter to the editor re: June Maxam's dad, Gerard Maxam:

Your letter might be published if you tell them you are the Terri people.
There is a pro-life hospice in Glens Falls. I wonder if June's dad could be moved there, or would the Glens Falls' "Judge Greer" not allow it.
More attention for Freerepublic as well, but thank you Lord for bringing this to light. Sounds like we are creating a stir.
"I thought a living will only took effect when a person was unable to speak for himself?"
That's the burning question in the minds of many participating in an online debate on FreeRepublic.com over the "suspicious" death of a 79-year-old nursing home patient and the familial tug-of-war over his life that preceded it.
"People who think that living wills are a panacea just don't get it. They can be used against you, too. This case just illustrates that sad and terrible reality," commented one individual with the online ID Ohioan from Florida.
The thread of discussion has continued daily since WorldNetDaily exclusively reported on the tussle over Jimmy Chambers Oct. 20. The "active" and "vibrant" Yuma, Ariz., man landed in Naples Community Hospital in Naples, Fla., Aug. 20 after colliding with a tree limb while riding a lawnmower in his son's yard. Chambers suffered a broken back, a spinal chord injury and a torn aorta.

I just called the Eden Park Health nursing home for Gerard Maxam. It might be good to ping the phone #. It is 518-793-5163.
I just said don't allow Gerard Maxam to be dehydrated and starved. Maybe some of you are better talkers than I, but it's important to stand up and be counted.

Here's an e-mail for a M-F talk show host, Andrew Wilcow, whose radio station is 40 miles from the area, where June Maxam's father is:

You're so right FV!! Terri's rights were violated in the most cruel fashion ever imagined.
Concerning the WND article.. I'm glad to see the truth about living wills once again coming to light. Several months ago I read that the idea for living wills came straight from the euthanasia movement. I think the information was on a thread here at FR.
WND's Diana Lynne does a great job of getting the truth out. Thanks for the link.

I agree. Inspite of her tragedy, her posts are full of hope and faith.
I would get a couple of really strong relatives and just walk in there and get him out. I wouldn't care what the consequences were, I would not let the death ghouls murder my dad.
Living wills are of no value. The doctors don't even care if you have one. I know because I recieved calls asking for permission to remove my mother from a ventilator even though she had a will saying that she should be kept alive for at least two weeks to make sure that she would not recover.
They may not be able to do as they did at Pinellas Park, where they could set up armed guards and even SWAT teams to block or even have three armed guards at bedside.
They would have less excuse to do similar.

I would like to encourage all of those would fought for the life of Terri Schiavo to help June Maxam, editor of North County Gazette, and co-publisher of The Empire Journal.
June's father suffered a massive stroke at Eden Park Nursing Home in Glens Falls. He was not hospitalized - instead the nursing home claims they are "maintaining his dignity" and plan to place him in a hospice, withhold all nutrition and hydration and wait for him to die.
June asks that persons wishing to tell the nursing home of their views on altering health care proxies and death by dehydration may call the Eden Park Health Care Center in Glens Falls at 518-793-5163 or send a fax to 518-793-5165.
