WJZ) Baltimore, MD Today marked a high holiday for Muslims, Eid al-Fitr, one of the holiest days in Islam, but many are still upset that schools were still in session. Now, some Baltimore County parents are taking up a long-standing debate to get Muslim holidays off for students.
During the holiday, Muslims fast for one whole day.
Muslim students were given a half-day off from school. But, parents are asking the Baltimore County School Board to add the holiday into the school calendar. Jewish and Christian holidays are already observed in public schools.
"I want our children to feel as good as Jewish children as Christian children and really have the rights as far as the holidays are concerned," Dr. Bash Pharoan, and the parent of a muslim school-aged child tells Eyewitness News. "It's really all about recognition of us as a community as citizens equal to others, that's not really equal treatment."
Baltimore County school leaders say this is a religious issue not a school problem, because under state law the school system is required to offer excused absences for religious purposes."
Muslims in Baltimore County have lobbied the school system for ten years to get islamic holidays on the school calendar.
The takeover continues....
I still cannot get over a news report a few years back where the CNN anchor said:
"Muslims all over the world are today out celebrating Adolph Hitler"
I could not believe what I heard...
Off course she really said Eid al Fitr :-)
Welcome to America...land for non-Americans.....
This is fine until they want to make 9/11 a day of celebration.
OFF TOPIC:
I'm reading the news right now about the riots in Denmark and France.
ON TOPIC:
Happy Eid al-Fitr. And now, back to Denmark and France...

From figures I've read on FR, .05% of the US population is Mohammedan. Same number for Hindus. We don't see Hindus lobbying for anything. Half a percent of people can adjust to the culture here, not demand things adjust to them.
There are some new interesting stories out of Denmark today relating to the mohammed cartoons and the possible target of the Danish terrorists who where arrested.
I'll post them in an hour or so, when the eastcoasters wake up :-)
I'll ping you to them if you'd like.
As far as the Danish riots are conserned I think they are extinguished for the moment. I read a story from Danish TV where the government announced a "Zero tolerance" policy, and it seems to have worked.
Cheers.
Thanks a bunch.
Please ping me.
I appreciate it.
Who pretend? The Muslims? Do you mean, they try to pretend Christmas is just another weekday or something, and "diss" the holiday?
I think this is a good idea, we Christians can celebrate the holiday of Eat-an-Fart by having 16 bowls of Bush's Pork and Beans that day. Then for the next seven days we can blow pork farts their way. Please don't light any candelabras while doing this
It's really all about your competing with Christianity, Omar.
Until you get to numerical parity, you lose. Oh, and we're going to make sure you never get close to those kinds of numbers, because we know how you guys act in the Subcontinent and in Europe. And if you don't like that, you can like it, or lump it, or leave.
Now go away.
The First Crusade was to retake Jerusalem, because mooselimbs were acting like terrorists.
Time for another one, this time to retake Europe.
Sono porcine, questi Sarrucini! Another thought occurs -- Europe is going to have to become much more parsimonious about handing out citizenship papers and extending political rights to the perioikoi.
It would be a gross outrage, to be shamed by strangers in the house your fathers built, because you handed out political rights and political power like after-dinner sweets.
How ironic.
You know that the last thing this person would want is "equal rights" for Jews or Christians, i.e. dhimmis, were the shoe on the other foot.
Yep.
