The President needs to finally own up to the fact that this confrontation will degenerate into a Vietnam-like quagmire. The facts at this point are unmistakeable, and the body count is rising. Whether the bodies are sub-compacts, coupes or sedans, the number of cars killed rises nightly, as Mr Chirac seems to be out of touch with the wishes of the people.
People around the world are revolted at the carnage. What will it take until the French finally understand that the war is lost, and pull out of France? As usual in cases like this the President has finally secumbed to the pressure and agreed to an investigation. What did the Parisians know...and when did they know it? Surely the condition of the unfortunate among them was known to all, well before the dikes finally failed, but the tax levies were shamefully underfunded anyway.
Tonight three more Citroens were brutally murdered in a walk-by bombing. Sure, the local authorities claim that the training of French soldiers was proceeding at a furious pace, with classrom work often extending far into the morning and once held over into lunch. The criticisms that the battalions produced are worthless without American backing is, in the words of the French commander, "...a disappointing lie that produces great pain in the recruits...".
No doubt exists any longer that the repression now taking place under the soft suede boot of the French policeman is creating more Islamic extremists, at a faster rate, than can be harshly condemned and deplored. Rumors are arising that several of these Islamic freedom fighters have been taken to special prisons and subjected to looped Michael Moore interviews for hours on end. "My God," one of the local human rights activists muttered in horror, "If the American press learns of these atrocities at our hands, how will we ever be able to sneer again?"
Back across the ocean in the land of the Great Satan, Senator Durbin, one of the few heroes of Lafayette, was quoted as saying, "What difference does it make if Bush can't be reelected? The rest of us can't either, now. And we can't even seek exile in Frogland, now. What's a quisling to do?"
We in the Press Magnifique can now only watch in horror as the careful edifice of appeasement crumbles like a souffle in the surf. Who's to blame?
Oui are.
Oh the horror. If the French retreat from France, they'll come to New Orleans and Quebec. North America has plenty of the socialist punks already.
Man I know that for sure. Some of these GOP boot-lickers here a quick on the draw. Can't really blame them since we're all a little uptight with the MD4Bush thing going on.
Zut alors!
Heh... I wasn't going to accuse you of trolling, but I was going to recommend a barf alert. Excellent work.
What's that there foreigner talk, bitt. I done told you I went to public school.
:)
Got me. Good post :)
Novice to FR perhaps, but no novice with the feuilleton.
What is happening to France is a true tragedy. But we ought not to forget that it was the support of Royal France that made our own independence possible. Washington's army carried French muskets, firing French powder and shot, backed up by French Artillery. Many continentals wore French overcoats, slept on French blankets, carried French knapsacks, and if they were lucky, wore French boots. The Army of Rochambeau and the fleet of DeGrasse maneuvered the British into position for Washington's (few) final victories.
France is the country Freepers love to hate. It is understandable to dislike the French for what they have become, but remember what they were.
Je vous pinguerai, mes amis.
There is a lot of wisdom in your words. And in every nation, I suppose, there are those abberations, those throwbacks, who still retain a spine.
If I thought that the French were truly on the side of George Washington and the birth of a new republic, rather than simply cultivating surrogates who might eventually serve a a counterweight and a stick in the eye of the British, (much like the Soviets cultivated and underwrote Castro), I would be more circumspect in my criticisms of them.
But you are right in that, regardless of the "big picture" in Paris, those individual frenchmen who fought beside us didn't risk their lives for 'global counterweight'.
Even if part of it was seething dislike for the British- to fight as well as they did required that something extra which has been quite literally biologically selected out the French race after the best of them died in countless battles on the continent. That something extra, that innate need for man to drag himself out from under the throes of the Royals, of whatever line of succession, I think may be faith itself. Faith that meaning exists, faith that honor exists, faith that if enough of us stand and die under the hooves of the mongols, that yet the village may live.
Because back then, "village" meant a collection of families protected by the best of the men. Much like our Marines and soldiers today. Before courage became a dirty word, and "village" became corrupted by the Hillarys of the world to mean instead the collective council, and the one world mentality.
Rather than ramble on, obviously you know what we mean. Let's hope we win. Let's hope the rest of the villagers finally understand what we have been saying... that surrender is not an option.
