Convince me there's not more to this that just teenagers causing trouble. I think the media is hiding some stuff.

I thought the same thing.

Al Qaeda is behind this. It's part of the strategy to bring the West to its knees.

"Convince me there's not more to this that just teenagers causing trouble. I think the media is hiding some stuff."

That's about all there is to it.
It's Detroit's "Devil's Night - 1994" in the banlieu, so to speak.
The "more to it" is that nobody's been killed. This is a French disturbance between French people, following the rules. The young beurs are mad about certain things: maltreatment by the police, unemployment, being second-class citizens in their own country. But they are NOT murderous. They're expressing rage, not jihad.

The religious leaders have been calling for calm and trying to get the kids off the street.

There is a desire to play this as a Muslim Insurrection, the Jihad Comes to Paris, the New Front in the War On Terror.

But that is not the case.
If Islamist jihad comes to Paris, it will be in the form of bombs in the Metro or mass killings. It will not be in young men causing trouble in the streets and saying that the police are too rough (they are) or that they've got no jobs and are excluded (which is true).

So there is more to it, but it doesn't even rise to the level of the LA riots. There, the respect for life disappeared. On the 8th day of riots in Seine-St. Denis, nobody's dead.

It ain't just angry youth, and the French aren't just sitting around doing nothing. I just wish they'd pick up the pace about now.
