Newspaper Reveals Logging Into Internet User's Account
BALTIMORE -- The identity of an Internet user connected to the firing of a former gubernatorial aide remains a mystery. However, new disclosures from The Washington Post may shed light on how to solve the mystery.
The editor said that information came from someone associated with MD4Bush and that the reporter used it to log into MD4Bush's account several times before the story was published.

Also Wednesday, the operators of The Free Republic Web site told the 11 News I-Team that they are now considering their legal options because their policy prohibits their Web site users to share account information with a third party, something MD4Bush apparently did.

The editor said the reporter was trying to authenticate the online exchanges between MD4Bush and Steffen, and did not participate in the actual postings. Why would you need somebody's password to "authenticate" their postings?

Because they were in Freepmail- not actual public postings.

There were FReepmails involved.

The "postings" were FReepmails. You can't see FReepmails unless you log in. And the FReepmails were dumped on a public thread shortly before the Washington Post's article was published.
To: Riley
Ah. OK.
"Postings" means something different to me and this reporter.

And bitch-slap them for doing the same or worse than they accused FR of doing.

This is getting real good!
The editor said the reporter was trying to authenticate the online exchanges between MD4Bush and Steffen, and did not participate in the actual postings.
The private freepmail was posted on a thread. Could the person who posted publicly be not MD4Bush but the Washington Post writer trying to set up a ruse for the method of his discovery?

They can't get anything right, it seems. I have heard them refer to FR as a 'chatroom' or a 'blog'. It is clearly neither.

It appears the Washington Post reporter logged in as MD4Bush in order to read the freepmail exchange.
I'm not really sure that there's anything that FR can do about that as a legal matter. They could certainly use their policy to ban MD4Bush, something which hasn't been done yet.
It is rather ironic, though, that the Washington Post, which sued FR for copyright infringement, has no problem with violating FR's stated policies.
Perhaps "ironic" is too gentle.

It could get very interesting if one or more newspapers are exposed in a conspiracy against the sitting Governor of Maryland, along with MD4BUSH and his/her accomplices?
Another Dan Rather story?

Also Wednesday, the operators of The Free Republic Web site told the 11 News I-Team that they are now considering their legal options because their policy prohibits their Web site users to share account information with a third party, something MD4Bush apparently did. Improperly sharing out login credentials is, if I understand all of this correctly, the very least that was done.
