Longtime CBS Evening News anchorman Dan Rather on Tuesday called for a return to independent journalism, telling viewers to be critical of the plethora of "new" media outlets that feign objectivity while working to advance their own - or another's - agenda.
"You need to ask yourself: Is more better, and is all that calls itself news really news," Rather told the estimated 1,400 people who filled the Maine Center for the Arts near capacity for his morning speech on the University of Maine campus. "News is something people need to know which someone, somewhere, doesn't want them to know. All the rest is advertising."

Three words come to mind. Pot, Kettle, Black. Is it just me, or does this make perfect sense, Mr. Rather-be-biased-than-right.
Dan Rather said a person could lie but still be honest when referring to Bill Clinton.
I can't believe he stated his own agenda and experience of his entire career... moronic as ever.
I think its DAMN BLATHER... ;)
Dan "Liar, liar, pants on fire" Rather has no room to talk! I can't believe 1,400 people actually showed up to listen to him blather.
They have driven the network news stations all into the ground where frankly, they belong. I don't think they will exist much longer. No replacements can help their demise, unless they go the Springer route, topless news casters!
(sarcasm)
Man that was a hysterical report that Fox jumped on... I died laughing, but in all fairness, she is just a newbie who follows some dumbass director's orders...
Yeah, and wasn't Mr. Brown hildebeast's significant other, who she cleaned out his apartment before police or FBI got there? Dementia is setting in, forgive me... but Blather never discussed this obstruction of justice did he...
Are you for serious??? I always knew he was an ass, but, not that big.
Nope that was Vince Foster who assumed room temperature either in or before Ft. Marcy Park.
Nice rogues gallery you have pictured there....
As Dan Rather would say, "FEA".
Awesome cartoon!
After all those years as a "journalist" Dan does not know what "news" is.
"I am not sure if I can provide a text book definition of "news", but I would think a closer definition of "news" is reporting facts on events that may be of interest to others.
I do know that the MSM "news" has become a form of propaganda in which those that control the gate, select what is and is not "news". Pushing stories that favor their point of view, and suppressing stories that do not.
When was the last time you saw a news story critical of the ACLU, or NOW? How about never, and never will.
"News" should be neutral. Report the facts, not just the facts that support the view of management.
As someone else commented on one of these threads a few days ago on a similar topic, I wonder just how many lies were told over the year before the Internet gave us a voice?
Now Dan, if you write that book, I may buy it, but you will not, because you sir are a true beliver. And to a true beliver all is fair when you do battle with the enemy, and in this case, the views and values of middle America are your enemies.
What a clown. This is what the MSM is doing and that is precisely why there are all of these new media outlets. People are tired of it. Clearly he learned his Soviet propaganda lessons well. Rule #1: Accuse the other side of doing what you're doing, then repeat that charge over and over again.
WTF. With that definition of news it's no wonder the man has no sense of objectivity.
A fitting end to a hideous career.
Rather is beyond "stuck on stupid"
Rather is has locked the doors, blocked the windows, nailed his shoes to the floor "stuck on delusional"
He might as well be proclaiming "I am napolion" in a mental hospital. It would make his statements equally valid.
Gosh I had forgotten that incident. Thanks for posting this. Too bad you can't post a Vanity with this clip.
