The Threat Matrix

The title refers to a daily report given to the president of the United States detailing the most serious terrorist threats against the country. To tackle those threats, the government has formed a top-notch task force to infiltrate the terror cells and cut off the danger.

"Every morning, the president receives a list of the top ten terrorist threats - this list is known as the threat matrix."

We here at FR are trying to be in conjunction with the daily reports around the world that involve threats. We try to provide a storehouse of information that takes hours of research.

Threat Matrix: U.S. Terrorism
What's become of bin Laden since he gave us all the slip?
Full Story

Some think he is dead, others that he is hiding because he is scared of being killed.

Whatever the reason for the strange disappearance of Osama bin Laden, not seen alive since his last mocking video statement a year ago, he is no longer the face of the global "jihad" against the West.

Abu Musab al-Zarqawi { TM 25,TM 27 }, the Jordanian responsible for some of the worst atrocities in Iraq, has become the hero of the hour on militant Islamist websites.

MAJOR CACHE UNCOVERED NEAR TUZ

TIKRIT, Iraq – Just a week after a huge cache of mortars was uncovered near the northern Iraqi city of Kirkuk, another large terrorist cache was discovered Tuesday morning near the neighboring city of Tuz.

Soldiers from the 2nd Battalion, 1st Brigade Combat Team, 101st Airborne Division, found two storage bunkers crammed with weapons near Forward Operating Base Bernstein, west of the city.

More than 400 rockets of various types and 80 mortar rounds were discovered in the bunkers. Mortars and rockets, along with IEDs, are the preferred weapons of terrorist against civilian populations and military forces because they allow them to conduct attacks and then run away from the launch sites without having to face Iraqi or Coalition Forces.

Seventy cases of small arms ammunition, 100 artillery fuses, and a dozen rocket-propelled grenade warheads were also stashed in the bunkers.

An explosive ordnance disposal team was called in to inspect the weapons and conducted a controlled detonation to destroy the cache.

Another weapons cache was seized in Kirkuk Dec. 6, after police received a tip from a local resident. Rockets, mortars, tank rounds, anti-aircraft rounds and artillery fuses were taken by Soldiers from 1st BCT and an EOD team for disposal.

Rabies epidemics in Mexico State, 91 cases in Cuautitlan and Ecatepec ----------------------------------------------- Dozens of dogs infected with rabies were detected this year [2005] in the valley between Cuautitlan and Ecatepec in Mexico state. According to health authorities, the number of infected dogs is near 100.

"We now have 91 cases that have been reported as positive by the rabies laboratory," the State Health Secretary, Ms. Maria Elena Barrera-Tapia, confirmed.

Ecatepec is the municipality with the highest number of infected dogs, according to official data. "We have 47 cases detected in Ecatepec municipality," the city council secretary, Mr. Jose Luis Flores, said.

Authorities are concerned that the epidemic threat may reach Guadalupe highlands, where a case has already been detected. "There are packs of dogs there living in the highlands without any control," said Ms. Barrera-Tapia.

In Guadalupe highlands, an area belonging to Coacalco municipality, a fence designed for trapping wild dogs was placed, but until now, only 8 animals had been captured.

In addition to the proliferation of street dogs, another problem accounting for rabies spread is that fraudulent health personnel are administering vaccines, injecting substances different from rabies vaccine, while owners think that their pets are vaccinated; so it is important to detect these fraudulent health personnel.

"These persons are easy to identify, since they come to the households and offer their vaccination services, but they also offer [parasite treatment] for animals and other vaccines, and they charge for their services. Immunization services run by the Health Secretary are free of charge," said Oscar Velasquez-Monroy, from the Epidemiological Surveillance area.

From tomorrow, the State Health Secretary will initiate an emergency plan for preventing more rabies cases. "We are starting a new vaccination campaign in Mexico State from 6 Dec 2005, and we expect to complete vaccination in 100 000 households," added Mr. Velasquez-Monroy.

If animals are vaccinated, protection is not only for them, but also for our own families.

-- ProMED-mail

[With this many rabies cases in dogs, it is likely there will soon be human cases. Animals that are owned need to be correctly vaccinated with a vaccine from the Health Secretary. Veterinarians, in conjunction with the Health Secretary, may want to consider setting up vaccine stations in a municipality and doing as many of the dogs in that municipality as possible on several given days. - Mod.TG]

Thoughts from my jumbled mind:

Empty suitcases, boxes, etc - Next time it won't be empty.

Bay Bridge - Old suitcase with stained glass ornament and candles - threat to Churches with fancy windows and even names.

The Candles - Fire.

White powder - Next time Anthrax.

Containers with liquids - Watch your water supply and drinks.

Christmas, Hanaka, Winter Soltice - Too many Holy days, all that they are fighting....coming at one time.

President Bush has started fighting back at the anti crowd, that is a danger to the terrorists, as they could loose support in the U.S. and even see new laws against them.

The Election is close in Iraq, a free Iraq is not what is wanted.

*WCGal, do you know if the Bay Bridge ever had another name?
Where does it go from and to?

Why was the suitcase on the Bay and not the Golden Bridge?

I am not up to the answers, but this is what is in my mind.

AFGHANISTAN: NATO TO EXPAND MISSION

Brussels, 8 Dec. (AKI) - Foreign ministers from the North Atlantic Treaty Organisation (NATO) countries have agreed to expand the presence of the alliance's peacekeeping troops in Afghanistan. The decision came after a meeting in Brussels, where the decision was made to deploy some 6,000 troops to the south of the country, making the presence in Afghanistan NATO's biggest ever mission outside of Europe. A third of the troops will be British and a new British-led NATO headquarters will also be established in the Afghan capital, Kabul.

NATO currently has some 11,000 troops deployed in Afghanistan, while the United States has nearly 20,000 soldiers.

"We have today agreed to move NATO's support for peace and security in Afghanistan to a new level," NATO foreign ministers said in a statement.

The expansion by NATO of mainly European and Canadian troops into some of the most dangerous parts of the country will allow the United States to scale back some of its own military presence in the country, although the Pentagon has not given any details on how many troops it is expected to withdraw. It is believed that the move will allow the US troops to focus on operations against Taliban and al-Qaeda fighters in southern and eastern Afghanistan.

NATO troops are due to enter the south of Afghanistan by May.

Extremists detained in Tajikistan

19:54 2005-12-06
Members of the banned Uzbek Islamic Movement were arrested on Monday in the city of Khudzhand in northern Tajikistan.

"An Uzbek citizen, 37, and a Russian citizen from the Mordova
region, 41, who are accused of being members of the Uzbek Islamic Movement, were detained on December 5 in Khudzhand," a source from the Tajik Interior Ministry told.

"Six other people from northern Tajikistan were also detained," the
source said.

The men were detained while distributing leaflets calling for a
coup d'etat. The town of Khudzhand is an administrative center in the Tajik Sughd region. It borders on Uzbekistan and is the second largest city in the country.

The Uzbek Islamic Movement is an extremist organization, which says
it wants to establish an Islamic caliphate in the Central Asian countries.

Several dozen people suspected of links with the Uzbek Islamic
Movement and Hizb-ut-Tahrir have been arrested in Tajikistan since the beginning of 2005, Interfax reports.

Excerpt:

A Minneapolis man accused of lying to authorities in a terrorism investigation is facing three new charges that he paid a U.S. citizen to marry him, then used a green card from that fraudulent marriage to try to get jobs in the Twin Cities area.

Mohamad Kamal Elzahabi was indicted on charges of possessing fraudulent immigration documents, according to papers scanned into the computer system Wednesday in U.S. District Court in Minneapolis.

The new indictment comes on top of charges in June 2004 that Elzahabi, then 41, lied to federal agents about sending walkie-talkies to Pakistan and helping to get a Massachusetts driver's license for a man later convicted of plotting to bomb American and Israeli tourists in Jordan.
