The Threat Matrix

The title refers to a daily report given to the president of the United States detailing the most serious terrorist threats against the country. To tackle those threats, the government has formed a top-notch task force to infiltrate the terror cells and cut off the danger.

"Every morning, the president receives a list of the top ten terrorist threats - this list is known as the threat matrix."

We here at FR are trying to be in conjunction with the daily reports around the world that involve threats. We try to provide a storehouse of information that takes hours of research.

What's become of bin Laden since he gave us all the slip?
Full Story

Some think he is dead, others that he is hiding because he is scared of being killed.

Whatever the reason for the strange disappearance of Osama bin Laden, not seen alive since his last mocking video statement a year ago, he is no longer the face of the global "jihad" against the West.

Abu Musab al-Zarqawi { TM 25,TM 27 }, the Jordanian responsible for some of the worst atrocities in Iraq, has become the hero of the hour on militant Islamist websites.

Thanks V for that update. It seems that maybe there is a "Nantucket Triangle". The following is a dogpile search for plane crashes in Nantucket...Egypt Air...JFK, Jr...and many others. Probably some crazy air currents in that area, depending on the weather, etc.

More Info. On Connecticut Court Houses:

Courthouses Around the State Evacuated (CT - 12/2/05)

Associated Press Published December 2 2005

HARTFORD, Conn. -- Courthouses around the state were shut down Friday because of an unspecified threat.

Courthouses in Waterbury, New Haven, New London, Danielson, Bridgeport, Hartford and Rockville were evacuated. It was unknown if courthouses in other cities were affected.

Local and state police bomb squads were notified about 11:30 a.m. that state police were requesting a sweep of state courthouses.

U.S. Marshal John Bardelli said bomb squads were sweeping federal courts in Bridgeport, New Haven and Hartford but that the courthouses remained open.

"A threat came in," he said. "I'm not sure the nature of the threat. It came in through the state police."

Waterbury State's Attorney John Connelly said he was in Rockville Superior Court when it was evacuated and he got word that the Waterbury courthouse had been evacuated as well. Calls seeking comment were left with court and police officials.

Police stop truck carrying anti-aircraft missiles in Toronto-area highway

TORONTO (CP) - The army is looking into a bizarre incident in which a tractor-trailer loaded with anti-aircraft missiles was seen rolling down an Ontario highway.

Several police cruisers were needed to pull over the vehicle as it travelled westbound on Highway 407 near Toronto. The trailer was carrying two armoured personnel carriers bearing Department of National Defence licence plates and loaded with anti-aircraft missile launchers.

Police say the carriers, formerly registered to the Princess Patricia's Canadian Light Infantry, were supposed to be delivered to Montreal on Thursday.

Police took the driver into custody at the scene, and the armoured carriers have been taken to a storage depot.

A spokeswoman for the Department of National Defence says the army is investigating.

"At this point, I don't have any confirmation on anything," said Lieut. Morgan Bailey.

...and threatened his wife that if Qasmi did not surrender within 24 hours the whole family would be rounded up, Dr Qasmi’s wife Hania told Adnkronos International

This should be done to the other known terrorists world wide. It couldn't hurt.

That's the very reason anyone who can possibly grow their own veggies should do so. They'll grow in tiny pots on your steps or deck - all you have to do is water them to keep many of them growing. There are miniature fruit trees you can also put on the porch in the spring and summer and keep indoors in the winter if your climate is not adaptable. Tomatoes, cucumbers and pumpkins are good to start indoors in January and February for planting outdoors when frost danger has passed.

A correction for 3,507, it was March of this year, not a year and half ago. My apology for any confusion this may have caused.

I read that Northrup Grumman recently unveiled some sort of device but I don't think it is widely used by all of the airlines yet.

Threat forces evacuation of plane at Newark gate

An unspecified threat against an airliner at a gate at Newark Liberty International Airport forced the plane to be evacuated Friday afternoon, and authorities were conducting a bomb search on board.

The plane, Continental Airlines flight 249, which had been scheduled to depart for Pittsburgh at around 1 p.m., was towed to a remote section of the airport, where it was being searched, said Tony Ciavolella, a spokesman for the Port Authority of New York and New Jersey, which operates the airport.

Twenty passengers who were on the aircraft at Terminal C were removed while the search was being carried out.

The nature of the threat was not immediately clear. It was written on some part of the plane's bathroom, an FBI spokesman said.

Port Authority police were notified of the threat at about 12:30 p.m., and responded immediately, along with the FBI's Joint Terrorism Task Force.

The threat came a day after an America West Airbus jet made an emergency landing at Kansas City International Airport when someone left a note in the plane's bathroom that said: "Taliban is Here."

It could not immediately be determined if Friday's incident in Newark involved a copycat, authorities said.(snip)

UN says Chinese torture still widespread

Snip: Torture methods cited in a statement at the end of his visit included use of electric shock batons, cigarette burns, and submersion in pits of water or sewage. Mr Nowak spoke of one detainee forced to lie on a bed in a particular position for 85 days. The precise contents of the pills is classified information.

Iraq fanatics "kill pill"

Snip: Iraq drug makes rebel fanatics fearless A DRUG which makes users feel superhuman is being taken by rebel fanatics before they launch attacks against UK troops in Iraq.

The pill - filled with addictive stimulant methamphetamine - is given to insurgents so they have no fear of taking on heavily-armed Coalition forces.

Now senior British officers fear the courage drug, which is known as a "pinky", is flooding Basra where it could help fuel a second armed uprising.

Last night a senior Army source, who returned from Iraq two months ago, said there was a " big drugs trade" in Basra and feared leaders of different terrorists groups would hand out the pills to their followers.

The insider added: "Members of Muqtadr el-Sadr's fanatical Mehdi Army who've taken it have been known to stand in front of US armoured vehicles and open fire almost oblivious to the tank's guns.

"American officers think that suicide bombers may also be given pinkies to psyche them up before carrying out an attack."

Methamphetamine - one of the chemicals in the courage drug - is related to amphetamine but the effects on the central nervous system are greater.

Lettuce likely culprit in Hepatitis A cases

Snip: December 2, 2005 Health officials on Thursday identified lettuce as the likely source for a hepatitis A outbreak in Los Angeles County and urged residents to thoroughly wash the vegetable before eating it.

At least 60 people have fallen ill from the virus in Los Angeles County over the last three months. Officials are concerned because the outbreak comes after years of declining hepatitis A cases, but they have been unable to link the outbreak to a particular farm or type of lettuce.

There were at least two outbreaks: one in a downtown Los Angeles restaurant in September that affected 13; the other at an event catered by a Hollywood company in October where 19 fell ill. The other cases were scattered.

Officials would not identify the specific locations of the outbreaks, saying there is no ongoing risk at those sites.

"We believe lettuce was the problem in these events," said Dr. Jonathan Fielding, public health director for Los Angeles County.

Personal Note: If you read my post yesterday that says washing does not remove everything from the cells of the produce you buy, then you know to take the precautions posted by Granny today. Secondarily, much produce from LA is shipped elsewhere in the country, so suggest you clean any lettuce you purchase from unknown shipping origin locations vigorously.

They are better, now. We were out of town, so we missed it, thank the Lord! Every winter, people here get sick, and the Doctors don't have a name for what they have. They just treat symptoms. It's scary. I've heard that so many years of misuse of antibiotics are causing drug resistent bugs.
