Wow, that is a fascinating link. Thanks for posting it. I am a product of elementary parochial schooling. I got paddled at home when I got an A-. There was NO fooling around in school - no head turning, no talking without raising my hand and waiting for acknowledgement. No child left those classes without acquiring great manners. There's something fantastic to be said for that kind of education IMHO. Public school was a joke in comparison.

I was a product of parochial and private parochial schools but they had their own books and strong discipline based on Christian faith and they had religious sisters teaching as a vocation not for a paycheck. It's all different now but the old texts or recompilations of the old work books are available for homeschooling. Most teachers in the parochial system now don't even know that according to the Catechism and the Magisterial teachings of the Vatican that the parents are the primary educators, most have never read the Catechism.

Paddled for an A-? Happened with me, too. Guess that's why I maintained a 4.0 all through high school and 3.8 in college. Although calculus really was my downfall.

I spent my first four years of school in a "convent school" in Munich, Germany. Very strict and the nuns scared me to death.
My mother did the paddling, my Dad just gave me "the look". I was more afraid of that "look" than my Mom's gentle hand.

We were in Germany right after WWII for the Berlin airlift and post war reconstruction. That, in itself, was quite an education. Right or wrong, my Dad took me through some of the Nazi death camps (Auschwitz and Dachau) before they were cleaned up. It took me years to get over the nightmares. But, I believe that experience made me the very fierce patriot that I am today.

IMHO, some of our young people need the same experience.

Jihadists born in Canada post new threat

A "secret" intelligence study obtained by the National Post says a "high percentage" of the Canadian Muslims involved in extremist activities were born in Canada, a marked shift from the past when they were mostly refugees and immigrants.

Yes I was. I was the oldest of 5 children and expected to be "the example." If we weren't paying attention, we had to hit our own hands with a wooden ruler until the nun heard the "sound" she wanted from the pain (ouch just thinking of it). She made the boys bend over and hold their ankles for a hard swat on the rear. She'd be in jail with today's rules. In those days, parent's didn't complain - they were thankful the teacher was teaching them obedience as well as ABCs.

Our company brings in about 500 containers a year from Eastern Europe, China and South America. (full of wood products) This past year, we have only had THREE inspected. The only way we know they have been inspected is because we receive a bill from the Port Authority and Customs for the inspection....around $500.

We are a relatively small company bringing in containers. I can't help but wonder what gets through if only fewer than 1 percent of containers are checked.

Now I feel like I need traction after walking up and down the stairs doing laundry.

After falling down a short set of stairs near my laundry room, breaking two bones in my arm and wrist early this year, the use of the word "traction" becomes quite meaningful (laughing now).

Predy - who refused to name the locations of the outbreaks - said there are still a couple of facilities where people are ill with Norovirus, though it appears the outbreaks are winding down.

Well this appears to be related to something already known, but whether that strengthens the claims or not I'm not sure.

Here's a clip from the MSM that appears to talk about this situation, perhaps I'm just reading the translation wrong, or perhaps the translation itself is incorrect in important ways.

Anyhow, here's what I've found..
