How about Republicans finally grow a spine and support the military effort and remind the left of a few things.

1. Remind the left that every single Democrat of note said in 1998 that Iraq's WMD posed a danger to the United States.

2. Remind the left that Clinton's Justice Department obtained a federal indictment of Osama bin Laden which stated that AQ had a deal with Iraq. They agreed not to attack Iraq in exchange for weapons development.

Reid did it because, well, he's stupid. It's really no more complicated than that.

Why Reid did it

He's stupid and doesn't want to be reelected?

I suppose we can only hope that in the future, and by future I mean 2006 when the left continues to lose more control of the senate, that things like this will become less and less of an issue.

Reid looked like a complete jack ass when he was waiving his finger in the air on the senate floor in an obviously (poorly) rehearsed show of outrage.

Hey, Dingy Harry, didn't the Senate Intelligence Committee determine that Joe Wilson's report confirmed that Saddam had tried to buy yellow-cake from Niger? Isn't that all that the President ever said, that Saddam had tried to buy uranium?

Fitzgerald's statement, and his decision to confine the indictment of Lewis Libby to charges of lying and obstruction, threatened to dash the Democrats' hope of using the CIA leak case as an opportunity to re-debate the reasons for going to war in Iraq. So the party, or at least its leaders in the Senate, has decided to use another route, the shutdown of the Senate, as a way to achieve that goal.

YEP!

Mathews was on Hardball desperately trying to tie this to Cheney

Dingy Harry is officially delusional. Republicans now control the presidency and both houses of congress. Democrats can no longer win at the ballot box so their last chance to impose liberalism on the country is through the courts with their liberal activist judges. They realize that when Alito is confirmed that their stranglehold on the courts has now been broken also. They now control NOTHING. Fifty years of liberal tyrany is over.

Is there a rule that Senators must attend a "closed" session?
Or could the Republicans have let the Democrats hold their "closed" session all by themselves?

For Reid and the rats to spring this on the Republicans was simply rude.

What possible good is it to re-debate the issue of why we went to war?

Am I missing something here?

How much you want to bet there are people at the CIA that aren't going to sleep very well over this. They thought they had made it through the maze. The dums may just get what they wish for and with Sandy Burgler et all in the midst it may not be what they will be happy with at all.

The gentlefolk who spent an amazing amount of their lives telling us about the Senate being the "saucer that cools" (blah blah blah) during the Clinton impeachment hearings threw a temper tantrum today because the two-year, politically driven investigation into what really happened when their churl, Valerie Plame's boy-toy, lied about his CIA employment didn't result in a witch hunt against Carl Rove or the "neocon conspiracy." When the little brats didn't get their way, they dragged the Senate out of the conservatory, right past the playpen, and into the pigpen. Reid and Schumer are petulant two year olds, and their true colors are finally showing through.

If they pull this stunt again, here's what I want to see: Republican Senators demanding closed door sessions to demand investigations into: Hillary Clinton's fundraising, Chuckie Schemer's DSCC's theft of Mike Steele's financial records, Kerry & Kennedy outing a REAL undercover CIA agent on the floor of a Senate hearing room, Chappaquidick, New Jersey governors and senators, and Barbara Boxer's existence. One a day between now and Christmas ought to do it.

Of course! I knew it immediately. The indictment was a bust. But they decided to go ahead with their plans anyway.

What the Democrats REALLY want is to impeach President Bush. There can be no doubt about that. They want to find some little something that they can twist and blow out of proportion so that they can seem to be almost within the real of reason to at least make some noises about calling for the impeachment of Bush. What a joke! And the other joke, the NYT calling for Cheney to resign. How absurd!

These people have LOST their minds. It is that simple. Bush has driven them over the edge. Well they have three more years of him AND I HOPE THEY SUFFER!!!

This is Reid's Battle of the Bulge. With the nomination of Alito and the inability to win at the ballot box he knows the end is near. He is attempting to shift the argument to an anti-majority, abuse of power, power corrupts, red herring, anything but the issues fight. This is the opening salvo. He wants to delay the Alito hearings hoping the the GOP will be so weakened by this assault that they will compromise. Let's pray that Frist and the GOP leadership have grown a pair.

It would be nice if the 2006 election results in Nevada were the same as the election results in South Dakota in 2004. (Senate democRAT minority leader kicked out).
