Lynn Swann for Governor
Team 88 ^ | Lynn Swann

Posted on 11/01/2005 2:12:37 PM PST by sportutegrl

Pennsylvania is crippled by an absolute refusal of this administration to curb spending or lower taxes on job creators. A study conducted a few years ago found that business taxes per employee were 58% higher than the national average. Pennsylvania ranks 5th highest in the category of business taxes collected per employee. That has not changed under Governor Rendell.

Take for example the Rendell tax increase of 2003. While the administration fought for the increase of the Personal Income Tax (PIT) as a way to pay for their out of control spending, they never once considered the impact it would have on our job creators. Business partnerships, “S”-corporations, limited liability corporations, and other similar small businesses pay their taxes through the PIT.

Governor Rendell’s initial tax increase plan, an increase in the PIT by 34%, would have cost small businesses $3.2 billion over 8 years.

Raising taxes on our job creators is not the way to turn around the economy. After all, it is estimated that small businesses create almost 70% of our new jobs.

A recent study concluded that Pennsylvania missed creating over 33,000 new jobs in 2004 alone thanks to the Rendell tax increase. Instead of ranking in the bottom half of the country in job creation, we could have climbed into the top 20.

Our Corporate Net Income Tax is currently at 9.99%. This gives us the distinction of having the 3rd highest rate of the 44 states that have corporate income taxes.

When it comes to spending, this administration has never seen a dollar it hasn’t wanted to spend. The past three Rendell budgets have increased spending by over 18%, and the cost of government per family has increased $2,700 for each family of four.

What he says and what he is are two different things. In PA we say he is not pro-life.

In PA he is just an autograph and autograph he is not permitted to give per NFL contract. Very disappointing to people who show up expecting to get one.

Swann can't win. Who wants a governor who only has a name and autograph. Besides he hasn't formally declared yet so we don't know if he will really run. Yet he is being treated like the front runner.

Scranton says he is pro-life but takes pro-abort money and support. He is also just a name with the same ole party stuff.

Piccola will probably drop out because of the pay-raise stuff.

Don't bet on it. Pat Toomey took Allegheny County and I think they will vote for Panyard.

He doesn't come close to Mark Sanford. Swann is just an autograph.

Swann dances around the room when he speaks and dances around the issues.

Swann is an empty suit.....doesn't have any clearly elucidated positions on the issues.

The only candidate with the independence, intellect and integrity to drain the Harrisburg swamp is Jim Panyard.

In PA we say he is not pro-life.

Why? I've been talking to people and they're all saying he is pro-life. I've actually been considering adding run Swanni, run! to my tag line. BTW, I am in Southeastern PA and heavily involved in pro-life politics.

I don't see how he can be just a name and an autograph. He just seems too darn intelligent to me.

If you are heavily involved with Pro-Life politics, then I'd like to suggest that you get to know Jim Panyard. He's 100% pro-life and he acknowledged Jesus Christ as his Lord and Savior in his announcement speech. He's the real thing...the others are just pretenders. His website is: http://www.panyard4gov.com

Panyard sounds like a good man, but we need to defeat Rendell, who just came in on his white horse to end the SEPTA strike here in Philly. Lynn Swann can can beat Rendell. Panyard can't.

I haven't heard anything about Swann to tell me he's another Arlen Specter/Tom Ridge. I think he's a solid pro-lifer, or have I been misinformed?

Lynn Swann is just the man we need to beat Rendell.

Panyard is a hack lobbyist from Palmyra, a one-horse town where folks sit on their porch and watch the grass grow.

About Lynn Swann

Lynn Swann's life has always been about seizing opportunities. Born in Alcoa, Tennessee to Willie and Mildred Swann, Lynn moved to California at the age of 2 with his parents and two brothers.

It was in California where Lynn was faced with his first challenge, which he turned into an opportunity. Mildred Swann enrolled her 8 year old son into dance class, and it was here that Lynn would develop incredible balance and grace that would serve him well in the future.

While in High School, Lynn would be named an All-American High School Football player. His athletic ability would afford him an opportunity that would forever change his life, the opportunity to go to college. With no intention to attend there but as a favor to a friend's dad, Lynn visited the University of Southern California. The rest is college football history.

Lynn used the opportunity to play football at the University of Southern California to earn his degree in public relations from the university's school of journalism. Lynn Swann excelled on the football field, playing on two Rose Bowl teams and a National Championship team in 1972. Lynn was team captain, most valuable player, and an All-American in 1973.

His success on the field led to an opportunity to play professional football. In 1974, he was drafted by the Pittsburgh Steelers. Lynn would go on to be a cornerstone of the Steelers dynasty, winning four Super Bowls and playing in three pro-bowls. He was inducted into the Pro-Football Hall of Fame in 2001.

During and following his success with the Pittsburgh Steelers, Lynn pursued an opportunity to launch a successful career as a sports broadcaster. Lynn has worked for ABC since 1976, covering a variety of events as a host, reporter, and analyst including the 1984 Summer Olympics, the Winter Games in 1988, International Diving Championships. USFL, NCAA, College and Monday Night Football, the Kentucky Derby, Preakness and Belmont Stakes, the Irish Derby and Wide World of Sports. Lynn has traveled the world for ABC Sports.

Lynn has toured the country as a motivational speaker, touting the need for responsibility, strong leadership, and making the most of opportunities that present themselves. He also turned his success on the field into opportunities in the corporate world. Lynn currently sits on the board of directors of three companies, including H.J. Heinz Company, Hershey Entertainment and Resorts, and Wyndham International, Inc.

But out of all of his professional successes, moving to Pittsburgh in 1974 would prove to be the opportunity of a lifetime. Lynn and his family identified with the values that defined Pittsburgh and Pennsylvania; hard work, determination, and the will to succeed. That's why Lynn set out almost immediately to make his community better.

Lynn used his celebrity status to raise money to provide scholarships for the Pittsburgh Ballet. He has received numerous honors for his service toward the growth and improvement of our nation's youth. Since 1980, Lynn Swann has been the National Spokesman for Big Brothers Big Sisters of America. He now serves on their National Board of Directors and was President of the national board from 1993 to 1995. He has traveled across the country, testified before Congress and visited the White House on behalf of the nation's premiere one-to-one mentoring organization.

It is this community leadership along with other qualities that led President George W. Bush to ask Lynn to serve as the Chairman of the President's Council on Physical Fitness and Sports. In this role, once held by California Governor Arnold Schwarzenegger, Lynn is responsible for helping to create and implement the President's fitness agenda for America.

Now comes a unique opportunity for Lynn Swann to offer the state a fresh and energetic leadership. That's why Lynn Swann formed Team 88. Over the course of the next several months, Lynn Swann will use Team 88 as a vehicle to have a conversation with the people of Pennsylvania in regards to a potential run for Governor. He'll use this vehicle to raise money, travel the Commonwealth, and assess the state of Pennsylvania affairs.

Far too many people have to leave Pennsylvania to find opportunity. Lynn wants to make sure that Pennsylvanians across the Commonwealth have access to opportunity right here in Pennsylvania, just like he did. Team 88 is the first step in making that a reality.

Panyard is a lobbyist--the lowest form of life in Harrisburg.

He's also a leopard trying to change his spots:

As reported by Politics1.com…

In recent weeks the Libertarians have seen several of their ‘06 candidates bolt to the GOP for their next runs. Now the same is happening to the Constitution Party. Retired Pennsylvania Manufacturing Association President Jim Panyard was one of the CP’s most touted candidates for 2006. On Monday, however, Panyard said he would instead run as a Republican in the primary against former Lieutenant Governor Bill Scranton, former pro football player Lynn Swann, and State Senator Jeff Piccola. “This is a war for the future of the Republican Party … the biggest change we need is in the Governor’s office, and the best way to do that is run as a Republican,” he explained.

I have to admit that I like Panyard. He's a good standup man, but I don't think he can beat Rendell.

Unless I hear Swann is a pro-abort, anti-gun land grabber, he's my man to beat Rendell.

I hope Panyard has truckloads of $$$$$, 'cause that's what it will take to beat two gazillionaires--Scranton and Swann.

Since Philly is 80%Dem to 20%(on a good day) Republican

You are wrong. Philly is 110% Dem and 10%Rep.

I don't live in PA anymore, but I'll encourage my family NOT to vote for anyone who puts his stooges on this board to run down the other candidates.

Who the hell is Panyard? Oh, don't answer, that's a rhetorical question.

Very perceptive of you, Amish Dude. These people are here flacking for Panyard. They are running down Rick Santorum on another thread. They don't seem to realize we are on to them.
