So what will this accomplish other than nothing and the Dem's looking more and more like idiots? I don't understand why the Republicans don't take the vote and get it over with. I know that the Dem's can do it all over again tomorrow, this sounds so stupid to me or have I missed something?

I'm assuming the rule exists in case any senator wants to speak about classified information to the entire body.

Yes, he would still need to be confirmed at some point, but he can put him there. But O'Connor would have to go home first for their to be an opening, IIRC.

What happened...??? I take it you've caught up by now: Reid, Durbin, et al have made A$$es of themselves in the Senate.
Some people on TV are calling that "news".

The GOP should change the rule. I mean if you don't trust the other party to behave by unwritten Senate customs, then punish it for violating it. That in the future the Democrats will need to get a majority to agree to a closed session. I'd love to see the expression on Sens. Reid's and Durbin's faces when they realize they can't pull the same stunt twice.

LOL.....what headlines. Americans are hardly cowering in their beds about Avian Flu.
The other talking point is that it was Frist who broke protocol when he campaigned against Daschle.
They are all spewing the same bulll-o-ney

Someone should tell Dick Durbin the press won't let them shut it everyday. They won't play that game for long as and Dick will not get TV face time if he really wants to restrict press access long term.

So Frist winds up all his angry railing with "if only the Dem leadership had come to us with these concerns, I'd have happily discussed it with them -- I'm going to try to work with them on this...."
A gentleman til THE END.

Sen. Frist actually made a good point that if they (Dirty Harry) wanted to discuss this investigation why didn't they come to him and discuss it instead of this calling this closed session.

"They want to discuss pre war intelligence and WMD."
Why didn't they discuss it pre-war? By the way, how many of these Democrats do we have on record as saying Saddam had or was planning to manufacture WMDs?

Thank you
As long as there is objection to the motion to go to closed session...there's a vote?
