PETA PRESIDENT AUCTIONS HERSELF ON EBAY

She'll Slop Hogs, Pack a Hunter's Lunch, or Be a Pleather Buyer's Personal Assistant for a Day

For Immediate Release:
October 31, 2005

Contact:
Michael McGraw 757-622-7382

Norfolk, Va. - PETA President Ingrid E. Newkirk, founder of the world's largest animal rights organization and author of several books on how to be kind to animals, is giving lab chiefs and steakhouse owners a chance to get back at her. Because PETA's Campaigns Department is experiencing unprecedented growth, Newkirk has put her services up for bid on eBay to fund her campaigners' travel to protest sites around the globe.

Newkirk will accompany a hunter into the field, check trap lines, help a cowboy get decked out for the rodeo, clean cages in an animal experimentation laboratory, or even attend a cockfight (but only in New Mexico or Louisiana, where the activity is legal). One of Newkirk's hundreds of thousands of supporters, however, might outbid the competition and hire her to escort them on a cruelty-free holiday shopping spree, help them veganize their kitchen, or give them a personalized lecture on how to understand what would make dogs and cats happier in their home.

Newkirk also issues fair warning to bidders whose intent is to make her squirm: Be ready to land in the hot seat because she will not hesitate to speak up if she witnesses animal abuse.

"One thing that might give hunters, animal experimenters, or factory farm owners pause is the knowledge that their money will be used to fight hunting, animal experimentation, factory farming, and other cruel practices," says Newkirk. "But I'll pledge to be a dutiful, hardworking, efficient personal assistant, and maybe my presence will make them stop to think about the misery they cause for animals."

People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals (PETA), with more than 850,000 members and supporters, is the largest animal rights organization in the world. Founded in 1980, PETA operates under the simple principle that animals are not ours to eat, wear, experiment on, or use for entertainment.

PETA focuses its attention on the four areas in which the largest numbers of animals suffer the most intensely for the longest periods of time: in factory farms, laboratories, the clothing trade, and the entertainment industry. PETA works through public education, cruelty investigations, research, animal rescue, legislation, special events, celebrity involvement, and protest campaigns.

Newkirk's eBay listing can be found here.

FWIW, the bid as of this posting is up to $710 from a start of $200.

Just wondering, anybody know what a Pleather Buyer is? Ya reckon maybe they mean Leather Buyer?

Her eBay seller's name is petaprez4rent. Isn't that cute.

It might be worth bidding on Ingrid just to watch her spend a day in the killing room of a slaughter house :)

This is just another PETA publicity stunt... they know that if the bid gets up there for some hunter or something they can count on their limosine liberals to bail her out ....

Kudos on coming up with a way to make alot of money, but we know it will all be a cold day in hell before you get to see PETA pres wring the knecks of chickens in a processing plant.

Who has the obligatory picture of the hunters who killed about 50 geese and used the carcasses to spell out PETA? I always thought that was hilarious.

"PETA focuses its attention on the four areas"

This is an obvious inaccurate statement - PETA has always been mainly focused on itself.

If it weren't for the money, it'd be cool to hire her to help butcher chickens and cattle for a day.

I thought it was illegal to auction animals on EBay.

(Oh, never mind. I realized it's LIVE animals you can't auction there)
