Senate Coverage -- (November '05)
Thomas ^ | 11-01-05 | US Congress

Posted on 11/01/2005 5:12:40 AM PST by OXENinFLA

Since "Free Republic is an online gathering place for independent, grass-roots conservatism on the web. We're working to roll back decades of governmental largesse, to root out political fraud and corruption, and to champion causes which further conservatism in America.", I and others think it's a good idea to centralize what the goes on in the Senate (or House).

So if you see something happening on the Senate/House floor and you don't want to start a new thread to ask if anyone else just heard what you heard, you can leave a short note on who said what and about what and I'll try and find it the next day in THE RECORD. Or if you see a thread that pertains to the Senate, House, or pretty much any GOV'T agency please link your thread here.

If you have any suggestions for this thread please feel free to let me know.

Here's a few helpful links.

C-SPAN what a great thing. Where you can watch or listen live to most Government happenings.

C-SPAN 1 carries the HOUSE.

C-SPAN 2 carries the SENATE.

C-SPAN 3 (most places web only) carries a variety of committee meetings live or other past programming.

OR FEDNET has online feed also.

A great thing about our Government is they make it really easy for the public to research what the Politicians are doing and saying (on the floor anyway).

THOMAS where you can see a RECORD of what Congress is doing each day. You can also search/read a verbatim text of what each Congressmen/women or Senator has said on the floor or submitted 'for the record.' [This is where the real juicy stuff can be found.]

Also found at Thomas are Monthly Calendars for the Senate Majority and Senate Minority

And Monthly Calendars for the House Majority and Roll Call Votes can be found here.

Lieberman says something important is happening and not many people are there. He wants me to believe Levin is a gentleman and a patriot. Lieberman is so full of crap. (Cuss Jar).

Warner is up pointing out that Levin;s amendment is the same as his ... EXCEPT the last paragraph

Levin wants to put a time table on the war in Iraq

That the President would have to report every 90 days to have the war continue

Liberman is up now

I don't even like what Warner is willing to agree to.

Me either....I was beginning to think I was the only one that was unhappy with this whole subject...

I think we should get rid of both amendments...

Ruh-roh....Lieberman is gonna get taken to the woodshed by Reid and Soros...he admitted that the world thought there were weapons...and that Saddam even acted in a way that made us have to believe he did...

Common technique used in negotiations. The primrose path attempt. All you need to say at the end is "NO."

Senators will have to choose between the two amendments. Liebeman is making nicey-nice talk, sensing that tonight is a turning point away from politicizing, and toward successful completion of mission. No premature withdrawal, etc. Anyway ...

The language in S.AMND.2519 that Warner objects to is ...

(c) Reports to Congress on United States Policy and Military Operations in Iraq.--Not later than 30 [Warner wants 90 days here] days after the date of the enactment of this Act, and every three months thereafter until all United States combat brigades have redeployed from Iraq, the President shall submit to Congress an unclassified report on United States policy and military operations in Iraq. Each report shall include the following ...

[deletia]

(7) A campaign plan with estimated dates for the phased redeployment of the United States Armed Forces from Iraq as each condition is met, with the understanding that unexpected contingencies may arise. [Warner would delete this final paragraph in its entirety]

What the President said on Friday was NOT campaign rhetoric.

Why is Lieberman getting up NOW to talk about all of the partisan disagreements....

Why now...because Bush actually called the dems out on FRiday...so NOW Lieberman doesn't like the partisan bickering...but, before this I never heard a word from Lieberman about this "stopping at the water's edge"...

What a joke

He is showing why he never got beyond the first round of the primaries...he can't take a stand on either side..

he is a cheerleader for both teams tonight...

BAH...

This will be a good bill for President Bush to veto.

I agree. A great opportunity for an Oval Office speech to the people.

Levin is quick to get up and remind Lieberman that Warner signed on to LEVIN'S amendment....which is what I am mad about...

Why would the MAJORITY party sign onto any amendment drafted by the minority party???

OOPSY...now Lieberman is saying he agrees with Levin more...but, not so much...??????
