Since "Free Republic is an online gathering place for independent, grass-roots conservatism on the web. We're working to roll back decades of governmental largesse, to root out political fraud and corruption, and to champion causes which further conservatism in America.", I and others think it's a good idea to centralize what the goes on in the Senate (or House).
So if you see something happening on the Senate/House floor and you don't want to start a new thread to ask if anyone else just heard what you heard, you can leave a short note on who said what and about what and I'll try and find it the next day in THE RECORD. Or if you see a thread that pertains to the Senate, House, or pretty much any GOV'T agency please link your thread here.
If you have any suggestions for this thread please feel free to let me know.
Here's a few helpful links.
C-SPAN what a great thing. Where you can watch or listen live to most Government happenings.
C-SPAN 1 carries the HOUSE.
C-SPAN 2 carries the SENATE.
C-SPAN 3 (most places web only) carries a variety of committee meetings live or other past programming.
OR FEDNET has online feed also.
A great thing about our Government is they make it really easy for the public to research what the Politicians are doing and saying (on the floor anyway).
THOMAS where you can see a RECORD of what Congress is doing each day. You can also search/read a verbatim text of what each Congressmen/women or Senator has said on the floor or submitted 'for the record.' [This is where the real juicy stuff can be found.]
Also found at Thomas are Monthly Calendars for the Senate Majority and Senate Minority
And Monthly Calendars for the House Majority and Roll Call Votes can be found here.
THE WAR DEPARTMENT (aka The Dept. of Defense)
You are being tooooooo kind and giving him an excuse
Truth be known ... this idiot has always been this way
And how it was BRAVE American's that stopped them and saved your sorry butt???
AMERICANS DO NOT SURRENDER TO THE ENEMY!
Oh, for heaven's sake, Byrd is just very bad theater.
HEY Bryd .. December 1945 .. guess where my father war????
GERMANY FIGHTING FOR FREEDOM
And his family didn't whine about it
Byrd is comparing our troops to another countries troops coming here to take over America...just like the Islamofascists are trying to do...
Troops=Islamofascists in Byrd's world.
grrrr ...
my father war = my father was
I know. It's really troubling. He says that the Iraqis don't want us there. That is patently untrue, with the exception of those Iraqis who are terrorists. So he just lies, just like the rest of them.
I cannot believe I am seeing this with my own eyes.
I'm trying to listen to some music to SOOTH my nerves so I won't go postal.
Obey is having a fit on the House floor!!!
Was it a very short fit? Ros-Lehtinen is on now.
[Congressional Record: March 17, 2004 (House)]
[Page H1142-H1202]Mr. MURTHA. Mr. Speaker, I yield myself such time as I may consume. We did not go to war in World War II because of Dachau. We went to war because they attacked us, because our national security was in danger. And we went to war in Iraq because there
[[Page H1176]]
were weapons of mass destruction, I thought. There were al Qaeda connections, I thought. We did not go to war because these people were killed.
George Bush one, the first George Bush, knew there were mass graves. And he did not go into Iraq and he said, I do not want to rebuild Iraq; I do not want to occupy Iraq. And one Under Secretary of Defense said to our subcommittee it will not cost us a cent. It has cost us $150 billion to fight in Iraq and to rebuild Iraq.
So we are trying to revisit history. I mean, we cannot change it. We went to war because we thought we were threatened. These things were terrible things. We are glad to get rid of Saddam Hussein. That is not the point. We cannot revisit and change history. So I feel very strongly.
[[Page H1198]]Mr. STUPAK. ... Why did this Administration mislead the American people 237 times in their statements about the so-called immediate threat from Iraq? As Mr. Murtha of Pennsylvania stated, ``never have so few, misled so many.''
H.RES.557 passes on a 327 AYE, 93 NAY, 7 "present", 7 not voting
Murtha is one of the NAY votes.... Resolved, That the House of Representatives--
(1) affirms that the United States and the world have been made safer with the removal of Saddam Hussein and his regime from power in Iraq;
(2) commends the Iraqi people for their courage in the face of unspeakable oppression and brutality inflicted on them by Saddam Hussein's regime;
(3) commends the Iraqi people on the adoption of Iraq's interim constitution; and
(4) commends the members of the United States Armed Forces and Coalition forces for liberating Iraq and expresses its gratitude for their valiant service.
I caught it at the end. He was spittin' mad!
I don't have TV...who is talking now????
Saying an hour isn't long enough...
Markey........ he is furious!
Ed Markey of Mass.
BABY!
This is gonna be a bloodbath...I hope these people are prepared to live with everything that is said today...
And, they all are up for votes...
Oh, it's our side that's politicizing the war is it. Who is calling who a liar?
I heard Harry Reid on AirAmerica a little while ago...
and he said that Bush is worse that Richard Nixon...the most dishonest POTUS in history...and he went on and on..about how worried he is for our country...blech
BTW..Rangel...is the one that wanted people to have to go fight whether they want to or not...commonly called a draft...
Have any of you heard that the dems are only going to have Murtha go on the floor for the debate???
Thanks
