Both parties have their share of criminals. And the common man is the every day working person, that was not born with a silver spoon in their mouth. The ones that work every day and are bearly keeping ther heads above water. The ones that the goverment do not feel that they should make at least $6.35 on hour and they should be able to live on and support a family on $5.15 an hour when our gas prices are well over $2.50 a gal. The small business man, the small family farms, these are the people that built this country and made the Bush's and Clinton"s of this country their wealth. The men and wemen In Iraq fighting and loosing their lifes and there familys back have to live on food stamps to feed them selves. Men and wemen dieing for what? Not wepons of mass destruction, they are no closer to Bin Ladon they they were at 9/11. This country is back in billions of dollars in the red again. People are loosing their jobs right and left, so where is the good?

>Is that a real book?<

Yes, I heard the author doing a radio interview this weekend. I want to pick up a copy to read, when I next go to the bookstore. The author is a republican, and he points out the difference in the republican vs democrat mindset, and why most successful business owners vote republican.

No one was ever meant to support a family on minimum wage. That is a training wage and meant to lead to better wages with better skills.

Well said.

What would you say to this person?

Why, yes, I'd like to supersize that. May I also have an apple pie?

I meant that the idea of voluntary contracts seems alien not only to Democrats, but also to many on the Right. Everyone wants someone to be in charge.

They aren't humans, but rather a species of hairless retarded ape.

You could try flinging poo at them.

Mention Jihad, then tell him that he sounds like a whining cry baby who thinks we all owe him a living. Some people make lots of money, some don't, but we all make our own opportunities.

"You could try flinging poo at them."

That is their preferred form of communication, but will they wait patiently while I go to the cat box?

Tell him to go to Canada; then he'll see the results of the Workers Paradise Syndrome. I told my boss when I had my review that I am used to working for three people and that I have a lot of spare capacity -- she said that most of the people who worked for her in the past needed overtime to keep up with 1/3 the work I did in the USA.

Look at the people in Florida whining "Where's my gubmint ice? Where's my gubmint water? Where's my gubmint gasoline?" Do you really want to live in a place where this is the national anthem?

PS: Contrary to popular belief, everyone on Earth is not entitled to drive a car. If you can't afford gas, sell the car and take the bus. Or ride a bike.

Interesting post, thank you.

I note that Sweden and Canada are usually put forward by "liberals" as examples of countries where socialist societies compete favorably with the United States.

My usual reply to that is that those countries are not purely socialist, they continue to allow the existence of capitalism as a necessary host for the parasitic socialists.

I once took an art class in which one student was a Canadian. Interstingly, and accurately, she once mentioned in conversation that while the American form of government was based on freedom, in Canada the government concentrated on "fairness." Of course, the drawback to that (socialism) is that giving the state the power to decide what would be "fair" for everyone means giving the state endless power.

I'm in south Florida, just went through the hurricane in question, which was not one of the strongest to hit the state by any means. A minimum of houses were badly damaged, but the entire southern half of the state lost electricity for some days. But as Jeb said, "how much trouble is it to have 5 days supply of water on hand?" But I guess even here in America we have moved far enough in the direction of socialism that thousands of Floridians now give no thought to hurricane preparations, having already given responsibility for their lives over to the government.

Canada would not be able to survive at all except that it's got the USA within two hours drive for the majority of its population. There's now a government website to tell you how long you will have to wait to get "free" medical care and from what I have heard, it will scare you to death. An interesting development that has only begun to get interest is the fact that a lot of expectant mothers who have high-risk pregnancies are heading to the USA to have their babies. And of course this means that the little darlings have a claim to American citizenship!

"I'll get it in the States" is a very common reply to the inevitable news that something can't be had up here.
