Military recruiters better not call Donna Brightman's children at home. She wants different futures for her teenage sons.
"I'm not anti-military ... but I am anti-Iraq war," Brightman said during a phone interview Sunday.
At a time when military recruiters are struggling nationally to meet their new-soldier goals, parents like Brightman are indicating a reluctance to hear about the benefits the service branches have to offer.

The parents interviewed on Nightline were a hell of lot more confrontational and militant than this woman is. Of course, Nightline went to Seattle to get footage for their segment.
I'm in favor of the war. There isn't a moment where I haven't appreciated what our soldiers, airmen, sailors, etc. are doing.
But we have to think about this. There is a growing segment of the population that really is starting to eat up the "quagmire" and deathtrap" stories the MSM is putting out.
How do we counter-act that?
Matching a willing employer with a willing worker from a foreign country?
The Marines have exceeded their goals and they are in the hottest fights. The Army up'd its goal by 10% trying to 'grow' the army. They missed that goal. Big deal.
This MSM reporter doesn't know what they are talking about.
Well, the Iraq war is currently the military's mission. So either you support them fully, or not at all, IMHO.
There were anti's during the Revolutionary War... I believe they all became white robber barons in the Congo a short while later.
And the re-up rate amoung the troops far exceeds the goals.
In High School, I and my friends would have told a recruiter to go F himself, but that was just the anti-authority types we were....
You mean, like saying that I support the xxx church except for their stands on salvation, baptism, creation, and heaven. Oh and I can't stand their criminal leadership and his minions. And of course, I wouldn't want my kids to participate in any of that church's activities.
You're right. Somehow that doesn't sound like support to me.
Even more went north and became Canadians.
How do you "resist recruitment"? What a silly phrase.

One piece of cheap candy for her kids. I'm giving out chocalate bars to the little soldiers coming to my door tonight.
We've had two soldiers at our door tonight also! Of course, if I count the numbers of gladiators and such I think we have had an army here.
I have had a bunch of spidermen and those pretty little snow white dresses. There hasn't been many gory costumes but I haven't had any bible characters though:'(
If my daughter decides to enlist in seven or eight years, I'll tell her to come home with her shield or on it.
I can't think about it without choking up, but if my only child decides to lay herself on the Altar of Liberty, then so be it. Freedom isn't free.
She's actually given serious thought (for a ten year old) of joining the Army to fly Apache gunships in combat.
She would probably at the front of the line screaming for National Guard help in an emergency.
where does "resist" come in?? it is not as if the military is dragging their kids to enlist.
