WASHINGTON RNC Chairman Ken Mehlman issued the following statement on President Bushs decision to nominate Judge Samuel Alito to the U.S. Supreme Court.
Its troubling that before President Bush even announced Judge Alitos nomination, Democrat campaign chief Chuck Schumer attacked the nominee. The Supreme Court selection process should be about American jurisprudence, not litmus tests for campaign fundraising. It is my hope that Democrat Senators fully consider Judge Alitos qualifications and resist the calls for ideological litmus tests from Chuck Schumer and the far-left.
President Bushs decision to nominate Judge Samuel Alito to the U.S. Supreme Court is a tremendous victory for the future of the court and American jurisprudence. Judge Alito has proven to be one of the finest legal minds in the country and has a long, demonstrated record of excellence on the federal bench.
After serving as deputy assistant to the Attorney General in President Reagans administration, President George H.W. Bush nominated Samuel Alito to the U.S Court of Appeals for the Third Circuit in 1990. Since then, Judge Alito has served as one of the fairest, most impartial jurists in the country who has always faithfully interpreted the Constitution and will not legislate from the bench.
Great nomination - as indicated, for one thing, the immediate flailing about of the left.
Great guy to battle for.
I know this is off topic, but what I really like about Ken Mehlman's statement is he says Democrat Senator instead of Democratic Senator. I wish more people in the media would get that right.
Isn't it funny that a month ago they (Democrats) were all saying they wanted to give Harriet Miers a chance but they decided already that Judge Alito is not acceptable?
Great nomination, anyone on that short list would have been fine (for me personally: Janice Rogers Brown). It's nice to awake from the nightmare that was the month of October with very nice "do over". Besides the fact that he seems to be in the mold of Scalia and Thomas, the thing I love most is that he is *YOUNG*, by SCOTUS standards.
I can't wait to compare Mehlman's talking points on Alito to those he sent me for Miers.
The RNC supported Miers as it supports Alito as it would support any nominee put forth but the president.
Hmmm ... I wonder ... what happens when the RINOs betray Bush on this one and vote with the Dems (or refuse to go to the Nuke option on filibusters). Will my right-wing brothers and sisters realize WHY Bush chose Miers in the first place? No ... I doubt it.
Gee, I hope I'm wrong. But I doubt that, too. This is going to be nasty.
Arrghh, this sentence doesn't parse, unless Bush the Elder was the deputy assistant to the Attorney General.
/grammar police mode
I don't know if Bush planned it this way, but it is starting to look like he just put them in the crosshairs.
Of course the MSM and the DNC will never even hint or acknowledge their hypocrisy.
That should be our litmus test. They should be unacceptable to the leftists.
I love it that he calls Schumer "extreme far left". This extreme stuff cuts both ways.
Every RNC-Pub-conservative-libertrarian group should rally, unite and put out great talking points to support good ole Sam and push it down the Left's throat. The Right should be on every MSM outlet, written or spoken , forcing the Left to show their true colors. We then should be praying that Stevens and Ginsberg resign too. Especially Stevens since he is already sleeping while testimony goes on! At 87, it is time for him to go too. Then the woman-Hispanic-black option with Brown, other choices could be made. Personally, I would love to see Luttig forced down the DNC throats. But, one choice at a time. And if McCain and other RINO's complain, isolate them and tell them that primaries are coming in 2008!
