Senator Frank Lautenberg (D-N.J.): Alito is the kind of judge the public deserves one who is impartial, thoughtful, and fair.
My point is that it is too early to know. For many, a judge's tenure on the bench can be an act of self discovery.
If Bush appointed judicial activists that just happen to tilt to the conservative side then we will be in trouble. It's not like we've had a chance to evaluate every one of Bush's nominees.
Mostly we've gone by trust but Miers showed us that Bush's was relying on Mier's political and personal views more than her judicial philosophy.
It is too soon to tell on Roberts too. He seems like he will be really good, but let's give a few years before we claim victory.
hmmm.
Do you feel that someone more conservative than Chaffee, Collins or Snowe could win a statewide election in those very blue states?
Catholics dominate SC. All the Evangelicals dissed.
Oh my God! A man judge? Mr. Bush didn't do what Sandra Day O'Connor advised?? The libs will be up in arms!
Wrote nice emails to my senators, especially to Sen John Warner (one of the gang of 7), BEGGING him to support this nominee. I also wrote to Sen Allen (with presidential aspirations). Also, sent an Alert email to my gang (to busy working to pay full attention to this details) asking them to do the same.
I've done MY PART, HOW ABOUT YOU????:)

W hath vindicated himself. Finally, he screwed-up his courage the way we knew he could.
The enemy will go bonkers trying to derail this, but it's already too late. Unless there's a stash of dead bodies in his basement, the left is going to have to grin and take a bite out the sh*t sandwich they're about to be fed.
Senator Specter,
I am hopeful that you will do all you can to support the nomination of Judge Samuel Alito to the United States Supreme Court. Judge Alito represents the clear majority of the American people, and his firm track record of constructionist judicial findings, also represent the clear majority of the American people, as well as keeping with the spirit and true intent of the Constitution and the founding fathers. He is also a fine representative of the majority that re-elected President Bush, who represent the majority of thought among the people of the United States, who wish to see the Constitution upheld, especially in light of the recent activist unConstitutional decisions which have come from he Supreme Court in recent years.
Judge Alito's confirmation will serve to return the U.S. Supreme Court to a body of enforcers of the Constitution, not a body of usurpers of the Constitution, who legislate from the bench with activist rulings as though the Supreme Court is an auxiliary legislative branch. Please vote in support of Judge Alito, so the American people can have a Supreme Court that represents them and the Constitution, not foreign precedent and liberal interpretations of what some wish the Constitution said, instead of what it actually does say. Thank you.
In MD conservatives call Paulie the "Stealth Senator". My parents live in MD and went to a local event this weekend and Sarbanes was there. My father called him that to his face. I love it!!
More likely, Stevens is next... But I wouldn't be surprised if Scalia steps down during Bush's term, in confidence of leaving the court in capable hands.
... and the five most conservative (or least liberal) members of the court!
Very true. I have been keeping up with byrd and his numbers aren't too hot. What kind if coup would it be for the conservative movement if byrd was defeated? 8) That would be great. I guess then the democrats will have to find some other kkk member to be a Senator, so there is at least SOMEONE on the democrat side of the Senate that represents what the democrats REALLY think, and that reflects the history of the democrat party. 8)
