I was disappointed in that also, and REALLY wanted Toomey. Though, I don't think he would have won in the election. PA just doesn't seem ready for a real conservative in that seat. I sure would have liked to have been rid of Specter. That would be a BIG HUGE lib loving RINO out the door. Maybe next time. It would sure be nice. Get Santorum behind the person, then he gets to be the Sr. Sen. from PA, and we get a real Republican in that seat instead of Specter. 8) Everone wins, except the democrats who lose a Republican seat that sided with them half or more of the time.

I can't understand why people in the conservative movement abandoned the principle that an originalist interpretation of The Constitution was important, ironically during a battle "to install an originalist".

That's obvious.

But you are trying to deny the President his prerogative to nominate and withdraw at will. Heck, even with a confirmed nominee, the President has no Constitutional obligation to appoint.

I wanted her to go to the Senate, never dreamt she'd withdraw. But her hearings were going to be an embarrassing disaster.

So you concede that Miers met all the requirements set by the Constitution?

Of course, as is Pee Wee Herman.

Miers was cheerleader, confidant and sounding board for President Bush. Her personality type is keyed into how people really feel - and because of that she's be able to offer a type of counsel others can't.

I was against Miers being confirmed, but she's won my respect for her important spot on the team.

My concern is she would have performed the same function on the SC. Miers might have attached herself to a conservative -- and we'd have an extra conservative justice. Great. Or she could have attached to a liberal..

Powerful men who surround themselves with powerful "truth tellers" only, are handicapped. Bush is smarter than that -- but he confused the mirror she holds up to him, with the person she is... Powerful people needs a "Miers" on the team, and she deserves our respect. Not confirmation...

When we put the best and the brightest people out as our argument instead of "quota" pick, we'll win the argument EVERY time. The country won't be fooled by the MSM.

...Yeah it is now time for ALL OF US, ALL CONSERVATIVES to FLOOD the seven RINOs with calls and emails and faxes 24-7. If we're RELENTLESS, VICIOUS, MERCILESS with them, they will all cave and vote for Alito. MUCH pressure is needed from us. We have to all be the surrogate spine for the Republicans in the Senate, for they have no spine of their own and haven't since long before they were the Majority....

I could not agree more! and LET'S DO IT NOW!... WHEN IT'S FRESH... SO THEY get a real picture, real QUICK of what's coming if they do the same little trick of las time

None, the aforementioned Senators need to be pushed so they won't backdown from the scrum.

It only takes a simple majority to change floor rules...

Sorry.........but I don't think anyone suggesting he nominate a liberal is a 'die-hard supporter.' Either that or they weren't thinking straight and said it in anger.

JMHO.

If Stevens and Ginsburg are gone the next two years and we get Luddig/Owens/Pryor/Jones type conservatives, like Thomas and Scalia are, and Roberts andAlito appears to be, in just four short years, the SC will have made a radical course correction about 135 degrees to the right, one that has been desperately needed for over half a century. I get goosebumps at the thought of a solid SIX SEAT conservative constructionist group on the SC. And then Kennedy too if he is more conservative like he supposedly was when put on the court.

That would leave just souter and breyer. And it will be a sweet day indeed when souter retires if there is a Republican President. That's a mistake that has been a LONG time in correcting. 8)

Why didn't the president choose someone more on the order of fifty.

We already knew the list was extremely short...plus, this guy was born in 1950 i think...he isnt old by my definition and in 28.

I hope you're right. In recent years kennedy has been WAY too concerned with his legacy and not near as concerned enough about doing what the Constitution says. He reads what the media says about him too much. If having Roberts and Alito on the court helps make kennedy more conservative by proxy of their presence, then that is a firm five, and a MAJOR swing, which is what I've thought it would be having o'conner off the bench. She was a moderate at best. No conservative in her at all.

Because I like to believe Bush promotes women in his administration but I guess we just don't have enough qualified women.
