Once again we see the fallacy of "Gospel reductionism"; meaning that the entire New Testament is conflated to "God accepts you as you are".
Instead of the Gospel of transformation it is really what Paul warned of "another gospel" of mere affirmation.
Just imagine what would have happened if Jesus had simply affirmed Matthew as a moneygrubbing tax collector instead of transforming him into an Apostle and Evangelist!
This "Gospel" of which the bishop speaks is truly an antigospel. There is no good news in allowing the sinner to persist in sin.
