"If we think that to elect as bishop he who has 14 wives will advance better the course of the Gospel, let it be so. "If a gay presiding bishop would - in our opinion - advance even better the course of the Gospel, let it be so."
That's the whole problem with too many mainline denominations today. What we think doesn't matter. Only through seeking His divine guidance through His Word - which clearly condemns both actions mentioned above - can we hope to act in a way pleasing to Him.
Repentance should be the order of the day.

Once again we see the fallacy of "Gospel reductionism"; meaning that the entire New Testament is conflated to "God accepts you as you are".
Instead of the Gospel of transformation it is really what Paul warned of "another gospel" of mere affirmation.
Just imagine what would have happened if Jesus had simply affirmed Matthew as a moneygrubbing tax collector instead of transforming him into an Apostle and Evangelist!
This "Gospel" of which the bishop speaks is truly an antigospel. There is no good news in allowing the sinner to persist in sin.
Kyrie Eleison.

They seem to be confused about God's acceptance. He does accept you where you are if you are willing to let Him remake you as He will. But, "accept you as you are", no way. He has standards, something which too few understand today. He gets to make the rules because although He wants you, you need Him.

There has been a trend to separate the OT from the NT, most recently in the last 75 or so years.
They consider OT law "out of date", or from the devil.
