The neo-isolationists that fill the far right of the Conservative movement, fanned on by certain insincere radio hosts, have become so exorcised by Mexico that the issue is close to eclipsing the GWOT; the Global War On Terror.
The gnashing of teeth and wearing of sackcloth has, for some, reached such a fever pitch that no other issue is important to them. They are fixated on the fact that Mexico is the most dangerous thing the USA faces in the 21st century, that Mexico will destroy our culture, or destroy our economy. And this as we prosecute a war, yet.
Of course, we have major problems with our nearest neighbor to the south. We have rampant illegal crossings, drug smuggling with impunity and a loss of a large block of our economy as Mexicans send US dollars home to Mexico instead of spending it here.
But a little perspective would be nice because Mexico isnt the most imminent danger the USA faces in the neighborhood. Canada is more of an immediate threat to our security by far than is Mexico.

profound excellent words...
All the 911 terriosts came straight from the US. Even FBI said so. You gotta get your fact straight.
9/11 terrorists aren't the only ones we think about here in the U.S. We remember the ones that came across the Mexican border and were caught as well as the ferry travelers with explosives in their trunk (to give us a special Y2K) and were caught coming in from Canada.AWB
Possibly.
We've had a canuck troll show up here with the same smug attitude before.
(s)He sounds familiar.
Intresting... very intresting... time shall tell Mods know all!
I''m certain they are awar of this one already.
In which case they are merely biding their time and waiting.
I guess a Canadian who holds to the principles and philosphy of William F. Buckley couldn't possibly be a Conservative unless he accepts unwarranted attacks on his own country.
It seems that an American conservative today is one who only needs to listen to Rush and call anyone who disagrees with him a Liberal and/or a Solialist. I didn't realize that the movement was that shallow..
Pretty sad... and pretty pathetic to as well....
nuff said... :)
Heh heh heh.
bad darks, bad bad darks! :)
"I'm not bad, it's in the script!"
And yes, time shall tell.
Canadians are so self-righteous and thin-skinned.
"Canadians are so self-righteous and thin-skinned."
It's comment like this is why sometime I don't go here alot.
It seems conservatives are more interested in fighting each other than the liberals.
Don't waste your fingers, he's run out of witty retorts and we're cutting into his hookah time.AWB
Roflmao!
Bingo.
We are VERY generous up here. Subsidized housing, checks on time every month (and if the postal service is interrupted, the cheques are taxied to the subsidized homes so the payee doesn't have to endure the humiliation of busing it to the welfare office and standing in line), health care, dental care, taxis to school if needed, and we are so nuts we are even setting aside separate rooms in the schools so they can face whatever and pray to whoever at certain times during the day.
If welfare recipients up here move to a unit which is larger, we give them a cheque for more furnishings. And if they wind up "short" before the next cheque is due to arrive, and there are children in the house, out comes the taxi with something to tide them over.
And if a muslim girl is placed in a classroom with a boy sitting either behind her, in front of her, or on either side of her, we have to move them. We also educate ALL of our children about islam during their "holidays", to make all things equal.
And yes, some of the terrorists came from Montreal. I remember being furious about it at the time.
Why on earth wouldn't they flock to this country?
He just confirmed what I said about English Canadians being High Tory in attitudes.
He should worry about his own nation right now. I predict Ted Morton will be President of the Federal Republic of the Prairies in 10 years time and "Canada" will just be the Windsor-Toronto-Ottawa-Montreal l'Est landmass.
