U.N. OFFICIAL ABUSING FOOD MANDATE TO TARGET AMERICA, REPORT REVEALS Secretary-General Annan Urged to Condemn Jean Ziegler’s Abuse of Mandate

Geneva, Oct. 27, 2005 -- The U.N.’s expert on hunger, visiting New York today to present his annual report before the General Assembly, has been abusing his mandate to run a political campaign against the United States, says a report released today by UN Watch, a monitoring organization in Geneva.

Over the four-year period covered by the study, Jean Ziegler, the Special Rapporteur on the right to food, censured the U.S. in 34 separate statements, accusing it, for example, of committing “genocide” in Cuba and of being an “imperialist dictatorship” responsible for all the world’s misery. In the same period, however, Mr. Ziegler made no mention of the food situation in 15 of 17 countries deemed by the U.N. Food and Agriculture Organization to have man-made food emergencies.

Most recently, Mr. Ziegler has accused the U.S. of “starving” Iraqis, a contention denied by the U.S. military. Mr. Ziegler opposed the U.S. intervention in Iraq, and suggested in 2003 that Switzerland offer asylum to Saddam Hussein to avoid war.

Mr. Ziegler, a former Swiss Socialist party politician, came into his U.N. office in 2000. In 2002, he was awarded the “Muammar Khadaffi Human Rights Prize,” an award he helped establish with the Libyan ruler in 1989. In 2004, Mr. Ziegler contributed an article criticizing American imperialism and the war on terror to the inaugural issue of L’Empire (“The Empire”), Europe’s first magazine dedicated to anti-Americanism. In both the article and his 2005 book, L’Empire de la Honte (“The Empire of Shame”), he used his U.N. title.

UN Watch today sent letters to U.N. Secretary-General Kofi Annan, High Commissioner for Human Rights Louise Arbour, General Assembly President Jan Eliasson, and General Assembly Third Committee Chair Francis K. Butagira, calling on each to condemn Mr. Ziegler for his bias. A speech by Mr. Ziegler in August comparing Israelis to Nazis earned him a reprimand by Annan and Arbour, as well as protests by 70 U.S. Congressmen and the government of Canada.

“Mr. Ziegler’s overt and outrageous bias against the United States constitutes a flagrant violation of his obligations under international law to act objectively, impartially, and non-selectively,” said Hillel Neuer, Executive Director of UN Watch.

“U.N. human rights experts must vigorously hold the U.S. and other countries to account for their human rights records,” said Neuer. “Yet Mr. Ziegler’s biased conduct, frivolous statements and virulent attacks against America undermine the credibility of the U.N. and the Commission on Human Rights in particular,” said Neuer. “Worst of all, Mr. Ziegler’s extremist politics are coming at the expense of the genuine needs of the world’s hungry.”

A couple of hours ago there was an article here on some UN official or agency and their 'shock' at the state of some refugees from Katrina, and how the UN should help them out. I don't know if it was pulled or I just can't find it now. Anyway, I wonder if this is the same guy or his agency.

“Muammar Khadaffi Human Rights Prize,”

Now that is funny, along with the Sudan being head of the UN Human Rights Commission. The truly ironic thing is that if you removed American aid, advances in agricultural production developed by America, half the world would starve.

Can we not just pull the plug on this joke we call the UN. It has become nothing more than a corrupt, Anti-American, Anti-Capitalism (except for itself), Socialist, Power hungry mob. Can you imagine a One World Government under these bimbos? That is scary.

And they are still trying to get the USA to hand over control of the Internet (so they can tax it), and they want to be able to raise an Army.

Please make the bad man stop.

US OUT OF THE UN and the UN OUT OF THE US...NOW>

This is why Bolton should never be appointed to the his position at the UN. Imagine,he things that the staff at the UN SHOULD BE HELD RESPONSIBLE for their actions. First Bolton, then Miers, how much can we take? Next thing you know, Bush will want to keep Rummy. We must be forever be on watch against Bush wanting to kill our children and destroy the country. After all, he is for big oil.

Is it just me, or does this entire organization feel like a trip into the twilight zone?

This is called "projection" by psychiatrists. The U.N. can't face its global wickedness honestly, so it shifts the accusation of "genocide" to the United States, the country that has kept the whole world fed for the last 5o years and exports nothing but prosperity, Democracy, denim, Coca Cola and a bunch of silly movies.

The U.N. is the revival of the Tower Of Babel.

........Jean Ziegler....censured the U.S. in 34 separate statements, accusing it, for example, of committing “genocide” in Cuba and of being an “imperialist dictatorship” responsible for all the world’s misery. In the same period....“starving” Iraqis".........

This should get a lot of airplay on CBSNBCABCCNNMSNBC and be 'top-of-the-fold' in all of this mornings papers!

Then again, they probably don't want to illustrate the stupidity and hate that motivates the clowns that run this organization.
