Say goodbye to daylight-saving time (Set your clocks back 1 hr tonight)

WASHINGTON -- Prepare to set your clocks back one hour on Saturday night because Daylight Savings Time is coming to an end.

Daylight Savings officially ends at 2 a.m. on October 30th.

Federal law does not require states to observe Daylight Savings, but those that do must abide by the rules. From 1986 to 2006 the period has been the first Sunday in April to the last Sunday in October.

In August of this year, Congress passed a bill extending Daylight Savings. Starting in 2007, it will be observed from the second Sunday in March to the first Sunday in November, extending the period about a month.

Arizona and Hawaii are the only states in the U.S. that don't observe Daylight Savings and stay on "standard time" all year long.

Many U.S. territories don't set their clocks back and forth, either.

The notion of Daylight Savings is credited to Benjamin Franklin, who is said to have first had the idea in 1784.

LOL! But they didn't have good blow dryers in the sixties. Not good for me.

" As we pass through the 80's do I have to get out my leisure suits and wide lapels again?"

Keep em out- they'll help you get laid in the '70s.

All of our clocks and wrist watches are "atomic" clocks in the house. It's only the microwave and convection ovens that we have to fiddle with.

Personally, I would make DST a permanent setting.

"But they didn't have good blow dryers in the sixties."

Seriously, Lyndon Johnson caught all kinds of hell for blow-drying his hair. Really. That and Viet Nam.

Seriously, blowing HIS hair dry was a worse offense than VN.

I kind of like the idea of warmer winters too. Yay for Global warming! Turns out it's the Sun anyway, so it's unstoppable.

I have a nuclear watch. I have to very carefully remove one uranium rod and store it until April.

That's some beautiful country where you live. I haven't been through Idaho in years but I remember the spectacular landscape.

It's rolling hills where I live in Minnesota. I'd trade an earlier sunrise for a mountain view. :)

Perhaps the sun doesn't set as early as 4:00 pm here in December. The snow appears to turn a lovely blue shade shortly after that time though. That's when I know it's about to get dark. Winter here is harsh, but it does have a certain beauty.

When it's 30 below zero, my boots make a distinctive 'scrunch-scoosh' sound in the snow and my breath turns into ice crystals. That's when I know spring is just around the corner.

It's great living in a state where you can fry an egg on the sidewalk in July and superchill your wine in a matter of minutes outside in January!

I love having seasons, not enamored of the time change though.

I hate these clock changing nights. I lose soooo much sleep just sitting up until 2 AM just to change the stinking clocks. Why can't we do this at like noon or something that makes sense and doesn't waste half my night?

When I was little I'd wonder what TV stations did on daylight savings time, since even the local newspaper guides always printed the schedule as if it was still a standard 24-hour day. Still haven't figured it out.

Daylight Savings sucks. Leave it to the brain-trusts in Washington to give us another month of it. Next they will tell us all to put on another sweater.

Good grief. I also completely forgot about it and then just at the beginning of Desperate Housewives there was a commercial for the new sleeping pill Luninsa (?) and it reminded us to turn our clocks back!
