This is the part I have the most trouble with and the reason I believe if Libby chooses to stand and fight rather then plead, he will prevail.
Did Russert record the conversation? If he did is that legal? How can the prosecutor possibly indict based on a he said, he said scenario? The prosecutor also claimed Libby lied when he said he heard the info about Plame from several reporters. Again why are the reporters telling the truth and Libby not? Because there are more of them? Given the hatred by the press of this Administration the fact that reporters would lie to set up Libby is well within the realm of reason.
Finally, I will NEVER understand how a charge can be brought against an individual during the investigation of a crime that in fact never occurred.

Don't worry John, the Dems, and particularly the Dems in the media, will keep pushing this until they run Bush out of town. If you think I'm wrong, watch.

What committee are you referring to? The GJ has been disbanded.

John Podhoretz appears to be leaning to the view Karl Rove will NOT be indicted. The anti-Bush fantasies of the kook Left have ended, not with a bang, but with a whimper. So much for the Democrats and the MSM's excited anticipation of Fitzmas. Turns out the presents they really wanted didn't turn up under the tree.

"Such a shame that "Fitzmas" was ruined for so many on the Left...."
They deserve it. I want an investigation into Oil for Food. I want to know if some of Saddam's money was spread around Washington.

It was important to the insiders and the MSM. I doubt any one outside the Beltway gave a hoot. In that sense, the MSM is completely disconnected to what's going in what it derisively sneers at as "flyover country."

there was a poll a few days ago in which people were asked to respond to a series of names read to them. The answers where:
1.Recognize name and know who he is
2.Do not recognize name
3.Unsure.
Just over 30% answered they recognized name of Scooter Libby. Only slightly more recognized Rove. I wish I could remember the pollster but unfortunately I have forgotten.

You are assuming Bush will cave to their pressure. I do not read him as that kind of man and I have seen nothing in his past that makes me believe he will run from such an attack.
Besides, how can the left possibly do as you suggest. You can't impeach someone because you hate him.

and why isnt Russert charged with exposing a "covert" agent

I think Fitz? is keeping the investigation open in the hope that Libby will implicate Cheney, to get a better plea bargain.

You're right about the media. Libby's indictment is still leading the news every half hour. Eventually they will have to move on, won't they?

It's Christmas for them early this year, because Rove's investigaiton is 'still continuing' and the Libby indictments for the crime of lying to the media will continue with a trial of sorts and sentencing. So it seems as though we are going to keep hearing about this until they sentence him or the media launches another investigation into another conservative.
Eventually they will have to move on, won't they?
One would think so, move on to actual news. I hope so. But I have a feeling they will milk this endlessly. It's all they could come up with after trying for many, many months.
To: GatorGirl
That's basically what Libby's defense is going to be I think. They're saying that Fitz selectively went after Libby on "memory" issues and not others, i.e. Russert, etc. Perhaps Russert could provide notes that indicated what he discussed with Libby...BUT if Libby heard it from Russert, would Russert's notes tell what HE told Libby? Or only what Libby told HIM. I think Russert burned Libby. Though I think that Libby DID hear about Plame/Flame earlier...he also heard it from Russert. As Andrea Mitchell said, all the reporters knew she worked for the CIA...but I don't think Russert would have wanted to be "outed" as the one telling Libby this. And considering Russert's statement yesterday..that this was the first indictment of a WH official in 130 YEARS...an ABSOLUTE LIE...Russert's "truthfulness" is suspect!

Scarmamble! Quick.....Someone tell me where you first heard the name Valerie Plame. Was it here on FR? Was it on one of the alphabet stations? Newspaper? On what day? In relation to who, what, when, where, why?
It's ludicrous that anyone would remember something as obscure as that! She was basically a nobody, connected to a nobody, in relation to a nothing scheme and just one of hundreds the Vice Presidents office has to deal with.
And this is CRIMINAL? There is NO underlying crime. What is this country coming to? When will someone fight back?

We still haven't heard about indictments for FBI File Gate,
Foster Gate, Brown Gate, Rose Law Firm Records Gate,
Lewinsky Gate, etc. Oh, What about Schummer Gate? What about Sandy Berger Gate? Pardon Gate? Forgot, Democrats get a free pass when they commit a crime!

Wouldn't the ABLE DANGER story be more important? Maybe this will cover up the ABLE DANGER investigation for the Good Ole Clintons.
