First post in a while, please forgive any posting errors.
I have repeatedly heard that Libby is the "first sitting WH official to be indicted since Grant." I then heard I believe an ABC radio report that he handed in his resignation "before the indictment was handed up".
I'm assuming that this is correct and the MSM has gotten this false story of "first sitting" official out there erroneously.
It seems that knowing an indictment was coming and hearing this "first since.." talk from the MSM coming for days the Libby resignation would have come before the indictment to deny the MSM this particular pound of flesh.
Does anyone know the actual facts? Thanks!
Aside from the house indictment of Clinton.
If he handed in his resignation before the indictment was issued, then he wasn't a "sitting official" was he?
A complete lie, Clintoon had (2)cabinet members indicted, Caspar Weinberger was indicted in Reagans administration just to name a few
I'm not sure if this is comparable: Web Hubbel? Then there's Mr. Willey, who reportedly shot himself with a shotgun the day that Clinton groped his wife, Kathleen Willey. He was on the verge of indictment, if I remember correctly, which was why she was seeking work that day.
Spiro T. Agnew?
If memory serve me right, he was the sitting Vice President when he was indicted. But then again, my memory is getting more like other parts of me. FAULTY!
Nussbaum also ended up in prison. He was working for the Clintons at some kind of legal capacity.
You don't happen to remember which Clinton cabnet members? I'm sure the circles I travel in will be abuzz with "first sitting WH Official" and I'd love to have the specifics to counter it.
Clinton's resigned before their indictments. Reagan had a cabinet member indicted while still in office (Raymond Donovan).
There was a thread on this yesterday but I didn't mark it...
Henry Cisneros? And......forgot the other one.
"Aside from the house indictment of Clinton."
Precisely. Impeachment = indictment.
Mike Espy or something like that ...
Was Ron Brown indicted or under investigation when his plane "crashed?"
Even if you play the word game by adding "sitting" --- Espy & Cisernos & Hubble (I think) had all resigned before their indictments -- Ray Donovan was indicted while a sitting cabinet member.
Timmy forgot the "Big Indictment (Impeachment?) Don't forget, Clinton calls it a "badge of honor".
Brown was under investigation.
Contrary to the liberal fantasy, Clinton WAS impeached, Nixon was NOT.
I see that the Detroit free press at least calls the Clinton indictment by it's true name. The story is about Libby but it mentions the "Clinton indictment".

As someone on the news put it last night, indictment is sometimes a baseless, gratuitous political move; they can indict a ham sandwich...
Russert: First Indictment of a White House Official in 130 Years
Posted by Michael M. Bates on October 28, 2005 - 18:50.
After weeks of joyous anticipation by many in the media, a Bush Administration official, I. Lewis Scooter Libby, was today indicted by a federal grand jury. NBC's Washington bureau chief Tim Russert wanted to emphasize the event's importance, telling his MSNBC audience: "This is significant, it's the first time in 130 years a White House official has been indicted."
Not according to MSNBC's own Web site. It's "Fact File: White House Staff Indictments" provides a "brief
history of indictments in recent administrations." Going back only into the mid-1970s, it identifies eight people, including a Reagan Cabinet member and two Clinton Cabinet members, who were indicted on various charges. These included conspiracy, obstruction, embezzlement, illegal stock trading, lying to the FBI and grand larceny. One Clinton official was indicted on 39 corruption counts related to acceptance of gifts from a company he was responsible for regulating.
Mr. Libby, by contrast, was indicted on five counts for obstructing justice, perjury and making false statements in an investigation. Gee, could it be this story isn't as huge as it's been portrayed?
