MONTPELIER, Vt. --A car parked outside the Statehouse bore a bumper sticker saying, "Regime change begins at home." Inside, about 100 Vermonters gathered in the House chamber for the Vermont Independence Convention --devoted to Vermont creating a regime of its own.
If participants have their way, the state whose former governor was laughed out of the 2004 presidential race after the infamous Iowa scream is going to take what some call its wackiness and others call its sanity in a crazy world and go home.

Ethan Allen, who led the Green Mountain Boys to take Fort Ticonderoga from the British in 1775, was among those in attendance, in the person of actor Jim Hogue. Ticonderoga fell without a shot fired, and it was agreed Friday that the new revolution would have to be nonviolent as well.
"Let history record that we, still carrying on without firing a shot, brought to their knees all those who, in the name of security made enemies, in the name of patriotism wrought treason and tyranny, in the name of peace made war and in the name of liberty would turn us into slaves," Hogue's Allen said.

Independence was the subject of a series of light-hearted debates around the state in 1991, on the bicentennial of Vermont's statehood. State Supreme Court Justice John Dooley -- a Stephen Douglas look-alike -- supported staying in. University of Vermont history professor Frank Bryan argued for getting out.
At the end of each debate the audience voted, and in every case, they voted to leave the Union. Nothing much happened as a result, but the message of Friday's convention appeared to be: If at first you don't secede ...

That's because it's a very small state that's been overrun by the counterculture and trust fund babies over the past thirty years.
Kanada awaits
No, no tenemos exito. Hay un ruling estupido in the courte supreme.
Sounds good to me.
Then we can go to war with them.
¡Tejas! ¡Tenga éxito!
Personally, I think Republicanus_Tyrannus has the best suggestion.... deport the seditious bastards and shoot them if they attempt to get back in. Maybe this jerk who thinks he's Ethan Allen didn't notice, but the entire secession issue was settled back in 1865.

That's how I see it. Well said!
Here's an idea-
Vermont secedes from the US, and Quebec secedes from Canada. They form a new nation. Then, the western (conservative) Canadian provinces secede and become the 51st and 52nd states (Alberta and British Columbia)...Saskatchewan follows. The remainder stays as Canada.
Yeah, yeah...the Queen Mountain State burps again.
"Don't make me march to the mountains!"
CIVIL WAR II: RED vs. BLUE!
I'll take it seriously when the secessionists fire on Fort Ticonderoga.
Perhaps we need a preemptive strike, just to be on the safe side? No sense waiting to get hit first....lets take it to 'em ;)
Think only thing we need to do is blockade some Starbucks and Birkenstock outlets...
No, we need to really hurt 'em. Say a directed laser beam at Ben & Jerry's.
Woaaa, that's cold man, really cold......LOL!
Hmmm
Let me see. We down South made this case over 140 years ago. We believed that it was the right, when the (federal) government did not serve our citizens needs, that it was our right to alter or abolish it.
Mr. Lincoln and a bunch of folks up North including VERMONT killed hundreds of thousands of our forefathers and burnt down or stole everything they owned to keep us from achieving what the good citizens of Vermont are now increasingly demanding.
Surprisingly, I FULLY SUPPORT Vermonts right to secede. Yea, I am THRILLED by it. We didnt want to be in a Union with them for at least 14 decades. If they get out and other blue states, for that matter so much the better.
Either way, the day of the Union is coming to an end not because I desire it, but because the partners in this political, shotgun marriage just cant agree or get along. Id rather have an amicable divorce than a murder-suicide.
