WASHINGTON - Nearly 1.5 million babies, a record, were born to unmarried women in the United States last year, the government reported Friday. And it isn't just teenagers any more. ADVERTISEMENT [0]
"People have the impression that teens and unmarried mothers are synonymous," said Stephanie Ventura of the National Center for Health Statistics.
But last year teens accounted for just 24 percent of unwed births, down from 50 percent in 1970, she commented.
The increases in unmarried births have been among women in their 20s, she said, particularly those 25 to 29.

Its not just the women , its the kids
Why it really is Christmas for our moral relativist Liberals -- first the Libby indictment and now this good news!
I'm also willing to bet that a marriage between 2 conservatives is less likely to end in divorce than a marriage between two liberals, or a politically mixed marriage.
I have a friend that says if you don't test the milk first you might find out it's spoiled only after it's too late. Regardless of the accuracy of the statement, I found it funny.
Right now I am dating someone, but if I were single I would instate this age philosophy: Any woman from seven years younger to seven years older is fair game.
I'm 28.
Ding ding ding!!! We have a winner.
Many GOOD, SUCCESSFUL, MORAL couples want children and cannot have them biologically. And there is a shortage of American babies to be adopted right now. I have no problem with couples adopting from overseas, in fact I think it's wonderful. However, these kids would have much better lives IN AMERICA if they could be raised in a stable household than in an unstable home where mom's a stripper on welfare with a new boyfriend every week.
With respect to the single moms on FR (I know there are some) you are the exception to the rule and the above post does not apply to you!
My friend's wife is involved with their church's youth group. She's in her late-20s now and works with 14-17 year olds in this youth group as a counselor. She said you'd be amazed at how many kids who met AT THIS CHURCH have had sex, smoked pot...drink too much...
Red States are certainly represented on that list....
Plenty of white trash think the same way as the black folks do....
Who says no one want to be judgmental?
I realize that tagging women who have bastards as sluts is judgmental -- and I am willing to stand up and say it is judgmental. You should have used better judgment in (a) picking your husband and (b) not sleeping (are we to believe it was only once with one deadbeat skanky guy?) around.
You claim you are a Christian. What sort of Christian girl sleeps around and then tries to sell her "indiscretion" as a one time lack of judgment? Were you really a Christian at the time you were offered the opportunity to hop into bed, you would have said, "No!" Saying "No!" to the skanks immediately makes them cross a woman off their list and look for a slut. Saying "Yes!" places a woman on the skanks slut list.
I wish you well, but someday your daughter will think, "Well, I know my mom jumped into bed with guys she wasn't married to so I guess it's okay for me to do that." Kids learn what they see a lot easier than what is preached to them. Your activities, I am sorry to say, places you on my slut list -- and I don't care if you think that is judgmental or not.
Your name fits you well. It's seldom somthing trivial that makes us recognize the awesome gift of Grace that's been given to us. I hope you find just a portion of that Grace when you speak to people in person, and I hope you aren't brought down by your chin hairs to the gutter to see it in your own life.
More evidence that we are living in a country in which women are little more than sluts.
Sex Poll Gals Like Sound of Silence in Bed
Boston Herald Wire Services
October 28, 2005
Heres a tip, fellas: Shut up and pay up.
Thats the word from a new on-line sex poll that found most twenty-something women prefer silence during sex and many would even have sex for money.
According to the Internet poll published in the November issue of Jane magazine, women also think about sex about as much as men with some 54 percent wanting some every day but just 15 percent actually getting it that often.
I guess what struck me most was how enthusiastic all the responders were, Katy McColl, 28, Janes senior editor, told the New York Daily News.
Most of the 3,740 respondants fit Janes target audience of single women between the ages of 20 and 29. McColl said 2 percent of those surveyed said they were virgins.
The nationwide poll found 51 percent preferred quiet intimacy and, if music is a must, 17 percent preferred something jazzy along the lines of Norah Jones.
And how about that money-for-sex question? One in five said yes.
Other highlights: Seventy percent of those polled said they were in monogamous relationship, including 21 percent who had nicknamed their partners genitalia.
But 36 percent admitted they cheated and 28 percent said they had at least one threesome.
And if men needed more incentive to improve, consider this: Thirty-four percent tell friends about the good stuff and 8 percent offer up full play-by-play analysis.
Notice how many "women" would sleep with someone for money, how many are bedhoppers, and how many are into threesomes.
I truly hope you have reformed your life ... but your reaction to my posts seems to suggest you are one of those faux Christians who believe you are entitled to God's forgiveness without repentance and that you also believe that others must ignore your own admitted bedhopping escapades. Sorry but eons ago I learned to stear clear of "women" like you. I think I learned that in Sunday School by the way.
You don't really hope for anything other than another chance to put someone down - and puff your chest that you're glad you're not one of "those sinners" who have actually sinned. I've not personally attacked you once, yet you repeatedly do to me. I think I'll stick with understanding that true Grace is brought out by repentance. But I'll show my repentance and appreciationto the One that bought it for me by His work on the cross. Not a crass self-righteous anonymous poster on this forum. If you must, go ahead an post a last word, but I won't be reading it.
But then the argument against that could be 'Encourage Abortions', no?
Eh, they're all fornicators, it's just that men can hide their responsibilities more easily, deny it until the paternity test fingers them, and so forth.
Is that what you said? And you're off the subject. The subject is 1.5 million babies were not aborted last year. I haven't seen anyone saying good for them, they chose life over death. Instead the children were called bastards, like it's their choice.
Though I've applauded a few single pregnant women at pro-life rallies, myself, here's my problem: since when did we start congratulating people for doing what they're supposed to do? Have we so defined deviancy down that people who do the decent thing and take responsibility for their screw-ups instead of murdering the inconvenient are worthy of plaudits and pep rallies?
I like that philosophy! Bring on the young guys!!!
