This is only the beginning. You have to admire this prosecutor for dragging things out, keeping the paychecks coming, keeping the press drooling while they wait for the BIG DAY. Next will come indictment of Rove and then on to? How long until Bush resigns? (For the good of the country, don't you know.) Meanwhile, do we get another SC justice to appease the left and be a friend to Ruth Ginzburg? I know, I know. My tinfoil hat is too tight.
It is still a bogus application of the law; a bogus investigation of a political matter; a bogus charge on a loyal staffer. Is there any underlying crime? Where did we lose our sense of what is right?

That's presidential succession. The Speaker is not next in line if the VP resigns. The President gets to appoint the VP if Cheney resigns.
This is really pathetic on part of the Democrats. I realize they think this helps in '06, but the Republican base knows what they are doing and resents it. From Delay to Libby, they are going to get nothing out of this. They aren't going to be rewarded in Republican leaning states and districts for using the Justice system to exact political payback for defeat at the ballot box.

The dummies are giddy that no charges were brought up against Wilson. Is it me, or is there a smell in the air that still has Wilson and Plame's name on it? Why do I see all these red flags when it comes to these two?
Ahhhh yes. The joys of the discovery phase. This will now be getting VERY interesting. Joe Wilson's ass is grass.
It'll never go to trial. The reason R's plea bargain in cases like this is that it will be before a Washington DC jury. If polls are correct, over 60% of the jury believes that the CIA created the AIDS virus to kill black men. It's not too hard to convict a white Republican of anything in front of that jury.
The order of succession only applies to the incapacity of the President. If the vice presidency is vacated, the President just picks someone to be confirmed by the Senate. Hey, he really could make it up to Harriet! ;-)
That is incorrect. A gj can indict if there is SOME evidence that a person lied (files on a machine that contradict sworn testimony), and the prosecutor tells them they should. They can believe that he did not, or had a faulty memory, and still indict, believing it is up to a jury to decide.

I wonder if there is a credible angle of defense (not that I am endorsing such a defense or implying its accuracy, just theorizing) for Libby that goes like this:
It became clear early in this investigation that one or more persons within the investigation or grand jury was illegally leaking secret testimony. Because much of the matter involved highly sensitive information, he chose to mislead the GJ/investigation to head off a line of inquiry that would have gotten into areas that could not be allowed to leak out without endangering national security.
I would guess the odds of legal success of such an excuse would be lower than the odds of political success, but it does seem that many of the leaks going back months and months were quite accurate.
Don't know if he's married but she certainly is.
I'm reading the indictments. We probably all should do so before commenting.
Up to the point I'm at, it says Russert did NOT mention Plame, but that Libby told investigators that Russert DID mention plame.
I think that will be part of the charge -- So when Russert says the indictment is "wrong", I think he has been misinformed. The part of the indictment that says he talked about Wilson is a part describing Libby's testimony to investigators.
