Every Halloween at 9:00, we have the adults in the neighborhood over for cider and rum and other assorted goodies.

This year my "costume" will be having my hairdresser pull my hair through the holes in a cap that is used to frost hair and a new orange/Halloween decorated top. We have more fun than the kids, I think :-)

that sounds like fun. I love playing with temp hair color. I often use food coloring as it is quick & reasonable. for st pats to green steaks & halloween.. whatever. Share any of your recipes you would care to, many here are still looking for ideas!

We dress up every year, too. The trick or treaters seem to expect it, and we have a ball. I'll wait to tell you about our costumes in case we have to make a last-minute change, LOL! (And maybe Dolly can post a photo if I decide to get brave?)

Redemptive Revenge

Read:
Romans 12:17-21

If your enemy is hungry, feed him; if he is thirsty, give him a drink; for in so doing you will heap coals of fire on his head. —Romans 12:20

Bible In One Year: Luke 1-3

cover In Rumors Of Another World, Philip Yancey tells a story that illustrates the kind of "revenge" Paul spoke about in Romans 12:20, when he said that showing kindness to an enemy will "heap coals of fire on his head."

When Nelson Mandela became president of South Africa, he appointed a commission to bring to trial those who had been guilty of atrocities during the time of apartheid. Any white officer who voluntarily faced his accusers and confessed his guilt would not be punished.

One day an aged woman was brought face-to-face with the officer who had brutally murdered her only son and her beloved husband. Asked what she wanted from him, she said, "Although I have no family, I still have a lot of love to give." She requested that he visit her regularly so she could mother him. Then she said, "I would like to embrace him so he can know that my forgiveness is real."

Yancey writes that as the elderly woman made her way to the witness stand, the officer became so overwhelmed with shame and remorse that he fainted. The pain that woman inflicted was not sinful revenge but the purifying fire of a God-given love that can lead to repentance and reconciliation. That's redemptive revenge. —Herb Vander Lugt

Love offered to our enemies
Can light a burning flame;
Its searing heat can give to them
A sense of godly shame. —D. De Haan

Christian love gives and forgives.

Hello Dolly (Hey that's kinda catchy..smile),

Are you sure about that FR History in the box above? I seem to remember finding FR in 1996 and I don't remember exactly, but it seems like there WAS a forum in 1996. Seems I found it right around Election time when I was dejected because Clintoon had won a second term. It was strictly a "Whitewater" discussion then, from what I recall. It was good to find people who were as disgusted with that bunch as I was and I got hooked. I know there was the posting of articles when I first found FR because at that time there were only 20 or 30 articles posted a day. That's how I found it. I was searching AltaVista for Whitewater news and information. I landed on FR and never left. Back then, I could catch up on all the day's happenings in a half hour or so. Now, forget it, I could stay on FR for 24 hours a day and never read all the articles and comments.

I have enjoyed FR from day one when it was an infant. Doug From Upland used to humor us with his limericks. I used to post comments before we were even required to register. It's been a good ride. Not so fun during the Clintoon days, but it's gotten better all the time.

Long Live FreeRepublic!!!!

I draw the line at a "chili" recipe that not only has no meat, but DOES have "frozen soy crumbles".

A Bravo Bump for a fantastic table and kudos for the side bordered bg! Here's the Wear Red post, and I'm about to walk out the door for the weekend. Will be back Sunday - have a great weekend, all!

"Wear Red" Friday
You will soon see a lot of people wearing Red on Fridays. Here's why..... The Americans, who support our troops, are the silent majority. We are not "organized" to reflect who we are, or to reflect what our opinions are. Many Americans, like yourself, and all their friends, simply want to recognize that Americans support our troops. Our idea of showing our solidarity and support for our troops is starting Friday and continuing on each and every Friday, until this is over, that every red-blooded American who supports our young men and women, WEAR SOMETHING RED.

Word of mouth, press, TV -- let's see if we can make the United States, on any given Friday, a sea of red much like a home football game at a University. If every one of our memberships share this with other acquaintances, fellow workers, friends, and neighbors, I guarantee that it will not be long before the USA will be covered in RED - and make our troops know there are many people thinking of their well-being. You will feel better all day Friday when you wear Red! So let's get the word out and lead by example; wear RED on Fridays.

SUPPORT OUR TROOPS! WE LIVE IN THE LAND OF THE FREE, BECAUSE OF THE BRAVE. FOR US, THEIR BLOOD RUNS RED!! GOD BLESS AMERICA.
received this in my email June 10th, the author is unknown.
I am wearing red today and every Friday ~ Billie
