This seems to be a 'breaking' news - announcement. . .though it probably affects smaller portion of population. . .nonetheless; I surely hope this is cleared up quickly. . .and to Fox News and Sirius advantage. . .. .
Both Sirius and XM are ramping up for launch in Canada before the holidays. XM is doing a much more effective job of getting their brand awareness out there. XM also has a growing number of consumer electronics hardware partners for home use.

I guess it's the positioning of the satellites or something but yes that was what was told to me. The deeper the canyon be it manmade or natures the sirius was supposed to be better. I spose that XM's satellites dwell on the horizons and the sirius are centered over the CONUS er something to that effect....

As to why urban areas may provide better Sirius reception it may be that Sirius has a bigger terrestrial repeater network. (That's a guess, not a fact).

My quick read had 'Siruius preferring tall buildings. . .and XM doing better in Mts. . .made sense to me . . .almost. ;^)

Sirius is making a HUGE mistake by hangling over nickels with FNC.
If they lose Fox programming, they are just throwing money and listeners away.

Yeah this is ridiculous. What is Sirius thinking? They better make an effort to get Fox back fast, or they're going to annoy a lot of subscribers.

I do know in such a major disaster such as we saw in NOLA region the folks that had either or XM / Sirius we're well informed from the TV Noooze shows and what XM calls Channel 247 as in 24 & 7, their emergency channel. They usually just report storms and such around the nation but during the recent hurricanes they had very good info with out all the Whorealdo Inc lookie at meeeee BS that seems to come with the noooze these days.
I don't have the sirius so can't say if they have the same setup but I know Sat Radio is a good source of information during good times and bad . Add such as the 247 channel with the other channels and it's a great little source be it either brand IMO.....

I read that Sirius caved to the pressure.
No surprise here. It was only a matter of time before their bluff was called. FNC just has too many devoted viewers and listeners.

Sirius spars with Fox News

LOS ANGELES (Hollywood Reporter) - In a carriage dispute worthy of the cable television industry, the Fox News Channel yanked its programing off Sirius Satellite Radio for two hours Thursday, forcing Sirius to pull the feed from a TV set in order to keep the content flowing, insiders said.
The quarrel began Tuesday night when the Alan Colmes radio show didn't stream on Sirius during its normal 10 p.m.-1 a.m. time slot in favor of Stephanie Miller's show. Miller, like Colmes, is a liberal talker with a radio show that's nationally syndicated over terrestrial radio and also carried on Sirius.
Sirius, though, is under contract to carry Colmes' radio show, as well as Tony Snow's radio program, and also has rights to the audio feed of television's Fox News Channel.
Insiders said that Sirius first blamed an administrative error for the foul-up, though the next night Miller again was featured in Colmes' spot on Sirius. That's when Fox executives decided it would stop feeding Sirius the Fox News Channel.
"They sort of, unceremoniously and in apparent violation of the contract, took Alan Colmes off," said Fox News Radio senior vp Kevin Magee. "We figured, if they weren't going to honor the contract, neither were we."
Sirius listeners who were deprived of the Fox News Channel for about an hour Thursday morning were instead treated to a steady stream of advertisements for Fox News TV shows, including, of course, "Hannity & Colmes."
"It's nothing against Stephanie," Magee said, "but that's Alan's time slot."
Although Fox News Radio distributes Colmes' show, Miller's show is produced and distributed by Democracy Radio and Jones Radio Networks.
Miller, who also starred on such TV shows as the new "I've Got a Secret" and "Equal Time," said her radio show is in 40 markets, compared with 70 for Colmes. She also said Fox and Sirius have their legal teams looking into their dispute.
"Fox went nuts," she said. "While they resolve this, I'm back to my regular time slot."
Sirius declined to comment for this story.
When Fox News was back up at Sirius, it was via a makeshift feed that Sirius borrowed from a cable television connection, insiders said. An hour after that, Fox News and Sirius settled their differences, for now, and the feed was officially back up.
Magee said that the deal with Sirius involving both the Fox News television and radio programing ends at the end of they year, unless successfully renegotiated.
Meanwhile, Sirius rival XM Satellite Radio did a deal earlier this month for creating a Fox News Radio Channel next year. The channel will feature the radio shows of Colmes, Snow, Bill O'Reilly and John Gibson, whose radio career with Fox begins shortly, coupled with repeats of Fox News TV shows. Under the terms of the multiyear deal, XM will continue to carry live feeds of Fox News TV on a separate channel.

Now this is sirius. . .is 'Fox' gone from Sirius satellite? ANYone know anything here? I have been out of town and not in my car much; so had not noticed. . .until driving home. . .
