One thing, she would have made Sandra O'Connor seem like a staunch conservative. That would have been nice for Sandra, dont you think?

Not if he nominates a conservative. The haters were the conservatives as we worked too hard to put her on the bench. This is great news. We have more votes than the rats so putting a luttig or brown or anyone of the top conservatives on the bench shouldn't be too hard.

Yeah, and they're going to kick themselves right out of a job, and out of the majority. What a great idea.

You don't know what you're talking about. If Bush nominates a conservative everyone of us will be there with him. In fact, many of us will give him an extra benefit of the doubt because of the bitterness what just happened. Stop your liberal broad brushing.

Yeah, we all just were out to embarrass the president. YOu're pretty darned twisted if that's how you think. If the next nominee is Alberto Gonzalez, you're damned straight we'll oppose him. If the next nominee is Miguel Estrada, we'll fight to our last breath. See, the people on this web site are CONSERVATIVES, not just partisan hacks. We actually care about moving this country in the right direction.

Remember, we all share the same goal of putting originalists on the SCOTUS. If the President now nominates an originalist that is accepted by conservative pundits, they will quite happily support such a nominee. Perhaps his biggest mistake in the Miers nomination was that he put forward a candidate with no serious supporters, unlike Roberts who had almost universal support from people that matter.

What kind of sad world do you live in?

It wasn't about hate for Harriet Miers or President Bush. She is not even in the neighborhood of the best a Republican president can put on the Supreme Court Bench.

Bush is screwed no matter what he does. If the nominee is too conservative, the liberals will block the nomination. If the nominee is too liberal, conservative Bush supporters will torpedo the nominee.

I would hate to be in his shoes right now.

Please freepers have been very squarely supporting Bush until Miers... 45% of freepers here think it was a bad nomination did 45% of freeper flip out about Roberts? No, some were not happy but a large majority liked him more and more as we heard more about him (pretty much the opposite effect as Meirs was having).

If Bush gives conservatives a Brown they will stand behind him no matter how ugly it gets in the senate..

"And now all the Miers haters are gearing up to do the same to the next person the President nominates."

We'll see. I just know that if Bush does put up a Luddig/Owens type, and the Senate shows the same kind of pathetic spineless kind of behavior they have the past five years, that nominee will fail on the floor, IF it even gets out of committee. And if that happens, and we end up with a moderate or a liberal, because of that full floor failure, it will be the fault of the anti-Miers crowd.

"And now all the Miers haters are gearing up to do the same to the next person the President nominates."

The conservatives aren't.
They're praying to God Bush puts up a clear, known strict constructionist judge, in the mode of Scalia and Thomas.
Then they will close ranks and fight to the death, and the GOP will be saved.

If Bush tries another stealth candidate, or anyone but a known, proven strict constructionist conservative, there will be a civil war in the Republican ranks and it will be the end of the coalition.

He's got no maneuvering room here.
If he does the right thing, the movement will come back together at warp speed: nobody on the right wanted this fight. There will be a battle royale in the Senate, which conservatives will win if the nominee is good and the movement sticks together, fights for it, and disciplines Republicans who step out of line.

Not if he nominates someone in the mold of Scalia and Thomas, as he pledged during the 2004 presidential campaign.
