A body found in a burned-out chicken coop in Mississippi has been identified as that of an Illinois college student who disappeared two weeks ago, authorities said Wednesday. Dental records were used to identify the remains of 21-year-old Illinois State University senior Olamide Adeyooye, authorities said. Police did not disclose the cause of death. "As far as the cause of death, we believe she was already deceased when the body was dropped off in Newton County (Mississippi)," Newton County Sheriff Jackie Knight said. "We have investigators from Illinois here with us but we believe the actual death took place in Illinois." Knight said he was not aware of any signs of sexual abuse. A native of Nigeria who moved to suburban Chicago when she was 8, Adeyooye was last seen Oct. 13 at a video store near her off-campus apartment in Normal. Her car, a green 1996 Toyota Corolla, still was missing. Normal police Lt. Mark Kotte said authorities were still investigating how Adeyooye ended up in Mississippi. But he added: "It is not an incident of somebody going around preying on college students." The body was found Friday as workers cleaned up a chicken coop in Lake, Miss., where firefighters had put out a blaze four days earlier. The coop is about 60 miles from Interstate 55, a highway that passes through Normal. Nearly 40 investigators, including FBI agents, took part in the search. Her family and friends posted fliers and sent out messages through Web sites and blogs. Police still had no suspects. "We still have a list of persons of interest and that hasn't really changed. We still have quite a few people that we need to talk to, and also people now that we will be reinterviewing," Kotte said.

It is so disturbing. We live and work in Bloomington-Normal. Our daughter attends college here. I'm not a paranoid type but I sure hugged my daughter tight before she left for class today. I hope they catch the person that did this.
I do too. This is really a terrible thing to happen anywhere.
Thanks for the ping.
This is so sad.
She had a lot going for her.
And, she was a very pretty young lady.
I don't know how he can say that. How would someone who didn't live around there know how to find that chicken coop. Were they driving around for hours with her body in the trunk looking for someplace to dump it and just happen upon the abandoned coop?
An unexplainable end - ID confirmed for missing ISU student
Heartbroken family seeking justice
'It's never hit so close to home'
Typical response of the Normal (IL) Police. We used to call them the Keystone Cops. Back 25 years ago, they were kind of known for being inept and being thugs.
My sister's husband is an ISU prof. My grandfather's family lived at the NW corner of Monroe & Towanda in the 1910's/1920's. I was living on Franklin Park in the mid 1980's when I met my (then) future husband; I used to walk to work in downtown Normal every day except when the winter weather got really, really, well, like blizzard conditions ;-).
We used to live on Fell Ave just north of Willow. We would walk through Downtown Normal. It is currently being renovated. It is really a sight to see. We live in Bloomington now but we go to the campus for football and basketball games.
Thanks for the links. I am from MS, but I used to live in Chicago. I have driven through Normal/Bloomington several times, but I never really stopped there.
From all of your posts, it sounds pretty darn nice (well, except for the creepy co-ed murders). I'll be sure to stop there, if I'm ever passing by again. I really like Central and Downstate IL.
A body was found off I-55 in Jackson next to the water works today. I guess that will be in the C-L tomorrow and on the news tonight.
No joke! So that's why there were t.v. vans and police hanging out near the water works when I drove home this morning! I'm definitely watching the 10pm news tonight.
I just watched the news on WLBT. Apparently the remains were skeletal. They said clothing found with the bones was at least a year old.
Every time I hear about remains being found, I think of Annie Laurie Herrin. Do you remember when she was kidnapped? They have never found her body. I can't imagine how awful that must be for her daughter.
On the 10pm news last night they said the remains were at least 8 years old. What is really strange is that they said another unidentified body had been found at the water works in 1994.
creepy.
