After seven full months of unrelenting battle with Freepers from the DC Chapter and across the country, it looks like Code PinkOs' hardest core supporters are suffering from serious "battle fatigue."
What Code Pink's leaders, Gael Murphy and Medea Benjamin, first thought would be a gold mine for their group (money-wise, media-wise and morale-wise) has turned into a quicksand pit. Code Pink didn't just drag its members down into the quagmire, but they also sucked in members of the many and varied leftist groups in DC that hitched their wagons onto the blood dance at WRAMC; and now they are suffering the same depressed feelings. Poor babies.
Code Pink's latest "Vigil Report" is less a report than it is a lamentation. Even in overwhelmingly liberal DC, nobody believes that Code Pink "vigilers" care about the troops. People recognize that protesting a war at a hospital is worse than tacky, it's cruel and evil; and Code Pink is having trouble extricating itself from their PR disaster. And now, Bruce - the ponytailed union man who has been writing the Code PinkO vigil reports - is feeling a little blue. Read for yourself:
Walter Reed Vigil Report No. 10
War Day 1,233
The vigil is now in its ninth month. Since last February the cost of occupying Iraq has increased at a far greater pace than the US Government envisioned. Would the Senators have voted a blank check for the President if they had known how much he would draw on it?
We have come to the moment when the announcement of the 2000th US soldier killed has been made. The moment will be punctuated with actions all around the country but we must not lose sight of how fluid this number is.
It does not include the deaths the USG does not count: the wounded who die on the way to hospitals outside of Iraq; Coalition deaths; Iraqi police, Iraqi interpreters, Iraqi employees of the occupying forces, Iraqis playing soccer in open fields, trying to drive through check points, children lured into death traps with candy, Iraqi hospitals, schools, and marketplaces targeted by both sides in the conflict, Iraqis who go untreated in hospitals because of lack of medicine, water and electricity, and doctors; journalists, contractors, representatives of other countries; Iraqis suffering from hunger and sickness (only NPR would do a story on foreigners flocking to Iraq to have inexpensive plastic surgery performed-oh, they did), yes, and of course the body count of "insurgents" (see soccer players above). Children crushed by tanks and transport trucks. Prisoners tortured, abused, held indefinitely, and sometimes dying of "natural causes".
Casualties means the wounded too. The ruined bodies, the lingering effects of combat, the nightmares, suicidal thoughts, and barely controllable urges to hurt others. The exposure to radioactive depleted uranium. The Pentagon admits that 80% of the returning soldiers are suffering from one or more of these ailments. And the VA has a special page on its web site for female and male soldiers who suffer from the trauma of sex abuse that occurred while they were in Iraq.
And then pray that the healing will come.
2000 is such a small number compared to the real cost-the real human cost. Death shrieks in laughter and pins medals on the chest of the War President. Mission accomplished. No one seriously thinks about September Eleventh anymore. We don't recall the faces or the names. We've got new fish to fry. Trade human lives for oil and bases, for launching pads for the next military adventure. "Let me explain," he lisps with the smile he can't keep hidden (love to play poker with this guy), "I'm the War President. I can't be the Peace President. People don't vote for Peace Presidents."
Oh, but those horrible people standing in front of Walter Reed on Friday nights, they are so awful. They're disturbing the wounded soldiers. Why are they doing that? They should know better. Look how they call for all the soldiers to get their full separation benefits and complete health care. Look how they call for all the soldiers to come home right now. How awful of them. That must hurt the soldiers' morale. These people want the war to end. Why are they saying that in front of a major military medical center? Don't they know any better? They should be ashamed of themselves.
Waterlogged and unrepentant,

Walter Reed Vigil
You go GIRL!! Daughter, friends, etc!
Made my WHOLE DAY reading this!
All the best!
"children lured into death traps with candy,"
Strange that he doesn't mention who springs the trap.
If this happened just once the MSM would deafen us with screams.
Why would anyone post this drivel of lies and call it "lamenting"?
Visited the battlefield at Spotsylvania today.
Losses during the two weeks at Spotsylvania added 18,000 names to Union casualty lists; 10,000 to the Confederates'.
It was truly a moment of perspective.
Keep it up, folks. My buddy and I are going to try to come down from the People's Republic of Massachusetts and stand with you to counter the Code Pinko's.
Can anyone verify there will be a counter protest on Veterans Day?
I drove through Acton, MA tonight, and they had candlelight vigil on an intersection with perhaps 25 people. While they make my skin crawl, I respect their right to protest, and I appreciate that they did NOT do it in front of someplace like Walter Reed.
However, I grit my teeth when I see the "No More Victims" signs. What planet are they from? Didn't they see people leaping to their deaths on September 11th?
These people don't matter to these Leftist morons who "lament" over the fallen terrorists they have chosen to support.
I wonder what these Lunatics, these "Cindy Shemans" will do, how hard they will fight, how much blood they will spill to regain the rights to be free, to do what they are doing with their protests the freedom and rights they are so foolishly fighting to give away yo yhe enemies of freedom.
Lament means "to express grief for; to mourn.
This article is mornfull alright, morning for the enemie's losses, not for the losses of our wariors who fight for the freedom these idiots enjoy.
"And the VA has a special page on its web site for female and male soldiers who suffer from the trauma of sex abuse that occurred while they were in Iraq."
In the Liberal's world of victimhood, no victim shall be left behind!
DU isn't radioactive. But, let's "lament" be mornfull about this article of lies. Better yet, delete it so others need not barf when they read it.
That's what got them in trouble with the press before, Bruce's sign that could come right out of a scene in the movie "Potemkin", a sign that read "Workers and Soldiers United".
Wait, I did see that sign in "Potemkin", watch the steps as the baby carriage rolls down the steps, their's Bruce the Peasant with that sign. And of course, McCarron went goofy too, at least he didn't make a "Baby Killer" sign based on his "Baby Killer" speech described in SOCIALIST REVIEW.
Come to think of it, Medea and Jodie need to measure Gael Murphy for a pink slip. Isn't it time for her yearly review? Perhaps she won't come back from the Cuba trip in December/January having failed the Revolution so badly. Castro's jails are loaded with activists and protesters, think of all the "Jail Solidarity" she could practice.
I had the same understanding the first time that I visited the Gettysburg Battlefield, long, long ago. I've written up the comparison of the Iraq War to past wars, twice. The second time was this week. Even the BBC quoted my statement about comparative costs of wars in blood and money. But it did not bother to include any comparative FACTS in its story.
As you recognized in your battlefield visit, a little reality goes a long way in understanding the imperatives, and the costs, of war.

Latest column: "Reporting on the 2,000th American Death in Iraq"
Hey, Bruce, jump back in your hole.
I just hope all of you go and kick these people's asses.
I've been depressed the last couple days.
My son got killed.
I don't think I'll be posting anymore. kick these pinko's asses for me.
The Russian Army's secret weapon "General Winter" will show up to help drive them away in the next few months.
What happened?
Condolences
