There isn't a politician on the planet that I always agree with, including this one.

My biggest quarrel with Bush is spending including the prescription drug benefit. If he can curb that I'll be happier than a wolf at a barbeque.

The border with Mexico is the elephant in the room that renders almost all discussion of true security insincere. This is a concern that crosses party lines, with a majority of Americans supporting tighter restrictions on both illegal and legal immigration.

I believe that the candidate's position on illegal immigration will be a leading indicator of who will win the presidency in '08. Whichever candidate appears tougher on illegal immigration will win. They won't win on that issue alone, but it will be a leading indicator.

"conservatives are largely united in the belief that the war on terrorism is the preeminent struggle of our lifetime."

Not quite. The preeminent struggle of our lifetime is with China. Some distinction has to be made on the 'war on terrorism'. The war on terrorism [whatever that is] is against al Qaeda. The war in Iraq is a civil war in which we have taken sides and we lose whichever side wins. Better to let them kill each other.

While Democrats may be applauding discord within the Republican Party, they might want to forgo the celebrations. None of this means that Republicans will turn leftward, but rather that those registering independent or "decline to state" are likely to grow. Either that or some truly conservative Republicans will have to rise to the occasion.

If the discord results in the GOP refocusing its message, the Dems will have to remind themselves to "be careful what you wish for".

For conservatives, criticism of the Bush administration centers not so much on style than on substance. Unlike the left's scattershot attacks...

Sorry Cinnamon but the far-right Conservatives sound EXACTLY like the left's scattershot attacks. Some on this Web site have called Ms. Miers old, ugly, stupid, unqualified, etc. to name a few -- EXACTLY the same tactics that the left uses.
