VICE PRESIDENT Cheney is aggressively pursuing an initiative that may be unprecedented for an elected official of the executive branch: He is proposing that Congress legally authorize human rights abuses by Americans. "Cruel, inhuman and degrading" treatment of prisoners is banned by an international treaty negotiated by the Reagan administration and ratified by the United States. The State Department annually issues a report criticizing other governments for violating it. Now Mr. Cheney is asking Congress to approve legal language that would allow the CIA to commit such abuses against foreign prisoners it is holding abroad. In other words, this vice president has become an open advocate of torture.

If it would save one American life, I wouldn't care if they pulled a terrorists fingers off one at a time. But that's just me.
Bet this post is a distortion of the facts, again. Anyone...
Yes, to members of the press. Cheney in 08!!!
"Cruel, inhuman and degrading"
Sounds bad but what does it mean?
I support the use of torutre depending on the urgency and seriousness of the situation.
Throw as much utter garbage as possible up on the wall.
I'm against torture. I'm all for humilating the bastards.
Just an impartial piece in the WP. (sarc)
Panties on the head bump
That is my position as well.
Supposedly :
"...including "waterboarding," or simulated drowning; mock execution; and the deliberate withholding of pain medication."
It's a tough one, really, torture. How do you decide it's warranted ? If there could be an firm standard made for who needs to be interrogated like that, I got very little sympathy for the terrorists. Only problem is what about the little guy that gets picked up just for standing near something ? Or turned in by his pissed off neighbor for nothing ?
Look.
EVERYONE thinks the US tortures detainees.
Why not remove the illegality of it and give foreign terrorists a reason to be afraid?
It's time to take the gloves off.
< However, I would have no problem if it were true. For all I care they can take these savages into a cave and boil them in pigs blood, pull them out while they're still rare and feed them to wild boars.
OK, you can all flame away and lecture me how we're better then them. Well we are.
Its wrong.
Could be..But if its not..I say to Cheney..GO FOR IT!
I am FOR torture..and I dont mean panties on the head either. Not torturing is NOT PROVEN to prevent the torture of our Captured Soldiers or others.
I say TORTURE should be used whenever we can get away with it.
Man on Fire Ping!
Mr. President(D) - "Nope. No torture, I don't care how many millions of people will be incinerated - this man has rights."
Wonder how many Liberal Elites will be worried about torture as their body slowly boils off their skeleton.
Duncan Hunter: "including oven-fried chicken, rice pilaf, fruit and pita bread..."Give me a friggin break!!!"Here you have a guy who was on his way to kill 5,000 Americans," he said. "And we have people complaining because he had a dog bark at him in Guantanamo."
Do you want that done to captured US troops? If we do it to people we capture, it ups the possibility that enemies, in this war and future ones, will feel authorized to do it to US personnel. That's one of the reasons for restraint in prisoner treatment -- to try to protect our own men who become prisoners.
