Indictments Coming Tomorrow; Targets Received Letters Today (Latest Lib Rumor)
thewashingtonnote.com ^ | October 25, 2005 | Steve Clemons

Posted on 10/25/2005 3:06:54 PM PDT by LesbianThespianGymnasticMidget

An uber-insider source has just reported the following to TWN:

1. 1-5 indictments are being issued. The source feels that it will be towards the higher end.

2. The targets of indictment have already received their letters.

3. The indictments will be sealed indictments and "filed" tomorrow.

4. A press conference is being scheduled for Thursday.

The shoe is dropping.

More soon.

A Washington insider I talked to today seemed confident that Rove will not be indicted. Same person was told by a very high-ranking GOP member of Congress that Libby and Miller had a "thing" going, and that's going to dominate the headlines, to the chagrin of Joe Wilson and his DU fans.

This is gonna be a big fat nothingburger if Rove isn't indicted. Libby is small fry to the Dems, most Americans have never heard of him.

I think the left has gotten to Fitzgerald. But Libby may be enough for them, now that they have a way to spin Cheney into the mess as we saw with the story that broke last night.

Fitzgerald will want to appear to be "fair" - that's why I think there is now less then a 50% chance that Rove will go down. and Fitz can toss Miller in there to make it look good, she's a "throwaway" figure in this.

I'll stick with my prediction - Libby and Miller.

I was doing a search to see exactly what a "sealed indictment" is and came across this.......

It is against the law to leak grand jury testimony or procedures to the press, including information that a sealed indictment has been issued (and the contents of that indictment).

But they insisted today the two are secondary players, that it was an unidentified Mr. X who actually gave the name of CIA agent V alerie Plame to reporters.

It's Wilson...

Strange that an investigation about leaks seems to do nothing but leak.

that Libby and Miller had a "thing" going

By "thing", do you mean a Clintonesque type of thing?

Peggy Noonan:

"You make it sound like a Hillary candidacy is inevitable."

"She is inevitable as a candidate, but not as a president. There will be serious drawbacks and problems with her candidacy. When she speaks in a large hall she shouts and it is shrill; she sounds like some boomer wife from hell who's unpacking the grocery bags and telling you that you forgot not just the mayo but the mustard."

"That's fixable, to some degree. What may not be fixable is that many voters associate her with a time of scandal and bad behavior. I mean not Monica, which the Clintons always pretend is The Scandal, but every other scandal of the Clinton era: FBI files, illegal fund-raising, sleazy pardons, the whole ugly mess. There will be some who associate her with the cultural disaster that was the Clinton presidency. There will be those who remember she and he led the country down a path both dark and merry while Osama tapped out his plans on a laptop in a cave." http://www.opinionjournal.com/columnists/pnoonan/?id=110006000

good points. that release letter from Libby did read as if he had some kind of "crush" on her, which I could not fully grasp.

they will use the story released last night to say "Libby was covering up for Cheney".

Its Libby and Miller.

That site has a link to an update (it says from CBS, but it is posted on a lefty site):

"BREAKING: CBS To Report Fitzgerald Will Make His Decision Known Tomorrow

From the CBS Evening News, to air at 6:30PM:

CBS’ JOHN ROBERTS: Lawyers familiar with the case think Wednesday is when special prosecutor Patrick Fitzgerald will make known his decision, and that there will be indictments. Supporters say Rove and the vice president’s chief of staff, Scooter Libby, are in legal jeopardy. But they insisted today the two are secondary players, that it was an unidentified Mr. X who actually gave the name of CIA agent V alerie Plame to reporters. Fitzgerald knows who Mr. X is, they say, and if he isn’t indicted, there’s no way Rove or Libby should be. But charges may not focus on the leak at all. Obstruction of justice or perjury are real possibilities. Did Rove or Libby change statements made under oath? Did they deliberately leave critical facts out of their testimony or did they honestly forget? Some Republicans urged Rove to step down if indicted. Not a happy prospect for president Bush.

Any guesses on the identity of Mr. X?

UPDATE: This bit from the CBS segment is also interesting –

SCHIEFFER: John, I am very interested in Mr. X. Is there any clue or hint as to whether he be - maybe someone who outranks Libby and Rove or would he be a lower-ranking official?

ROBERTS: The best guess is that Mr. X, even though his name is not known and some people are just speculating on who he might be or she might be, is somebody who is actually outside the White House, and in that case would be of a lower rank that both Rove and Libby."

Well, I guess we need
a special prosecutor
to track down this leak!
