Blanco asks for more time to deliver storm documents to Congress

BATON ROUGE -- Gov. Kathleen Blanco has asked for more time to deliver documents to congressional committees about her office's role in Hurricane Katrina preparations and emergency response to the storm.

The delay would mean it could be December before internal documents reflecting what was going on behind the scenes are made public.

"They have asked for the kitchen sink, which is OK," said Blanco executive counsel Terry Ryder. "But given the fact that we are dealing with Katrina and Rita right now, we have asked for 90 days more."

Blanco got a request for information on Sept. 30 from a U.S. House committee that wanted the information within two weeks. The House committee is interested in internal communications received, prepared, or sent by Blanco and her Office of Homeland Security and Emergency Preparedness and the Office of the Adjutant General for three separate time periods.

Another request came Oct. 7 from a U.S. Senate homeland security committee, asking Blanco to provide the documents no later than Nov. 3.

The Senate panel's request is more detailed, seeking documents such as charts outlining who held key positions in state government in preparation for and responding to the disaster, what legal authority the governor had in disaster preparation and response, documents from the last five years spelling out Louisiana's hurricane and flood risks, and those relating to the hurricane planning exercise known as "Hurricane Pam."

Give her a break!

She has just had a little schedule slippage ... she is just now getting around to thinking about how to deal with Hurricane Katrina ... she will get to the documents later.

LOL

The problem is not really that piece of vermin, Democrat Kathleen Blanco, it is the idiot voters in Louisiana that put her and that idiot Mayor in office. Must be a lot of "kool aid" drinkers in Louisiana. Or, maybe they are just stupid, or gluttons for Democrat punishment!!!

I did search by title ... and did not find anything. For some reason, posts are very slow to turn up, no matter now many times I refresh or reload. I guess that may be because I live in boondocks like most people think no longer exist. Needless to say I am limited to verrrrrrrrry slow dialup ... and am just thankful that there are not long distance charges involved anymore.

Long story short: I looked but did not see another post.

They need more time to create some damaging documents that prove George Bush's guilt in not micro-managing every detail of Louisiana government, down to the parish level.

These damning and conclusive memo's will be faxe'd from a Kinko's in texas, then the originals will be burned in the parking lot.

Hey, it almost worked for Dan Rather, maybe Blanco can pull it off.

She's as smart as a slab of granite!

Having documents means that she would have to be capable of reading and writing.

She can't locate the "documents" because she lacks necessary skills to file things alphabetically or otherwise.

Oh its not a problem with me, like I said, I appreciate it when there are duplicates of a posting from late night/early morning. I think double posting is fine, if you have seen it posted before, big deal, go to the next one, but some here do not agree.

Golly, maybe the Sen. Landrieu can help her find the documents she needs for the Senate hearings. Blanco is a lousy politician, and will hang Bush and FEMA out to dry, and say "Busman" Nagin and his croonies didn't tell her anything and that is why she didn't know what was going on. It will be the ol' fire drill from the 3rd grade with this a**clown governor from la-la land!

In all probability, if they haven't gotten a subpoena by now and gone in to get the records themselves, they will be shredded or reconstucted. Does anyone seriously think that, in 90 days, she will present evidence incriminating herself?

Maybe they didn't have them filed under "E" for Emergency Plans". Too bad businesses don't sue the state for failing to have a plan in force.
