Top Bush Supporters Set to Launch Anti-Miers Ad Campaign

A 30-second TV ad is set to air tomorrow, Wednesday, that some believe may be as effective at helping stop the Harriett Miers confirmation as the Swift Boat ads were in helping stop John Kerry.

BetterJustice.org, a conservative grass-roots organization, created and funded the hard-hitting anti-Miers (but pro-Bush) ad. The organization's board of directors includes several otherwise staunch Republican stalwarts, such as David Frum and Linda Chavez.

"Miers is no more qualified to sit on the Supreme Court than I am to be a sumo wrestler!" So stated the so very un-sumo-like Ann Coulter.

I'm just the voice of reality..everyone hates me for it on most occasions.

What reality exactly?

You say that you don't want another liberal in office, but that is not always a bad thing if it reminds Republicans that they need to avoid governing like Democrats.

Ford losing to Carter ended up being a positive as it drove the Republican party to the right and led to the Reagan revolution.

Bush 41 losing to Clinton wasn't that bad either. It forced the party to the right and the conservatives took over the house after being in the minority for 40 years. That would have never happened with a Bush 41 reelection as he was wobbling to the left.

The republican congress actually governed as conservatives and kept Clinton's policies in check. With Bush 43 in office, the congressional republicans can't spend money fast enough.

You see, rewarding bad behavior just to avoid a liberal being in office has the unintended consequence of weakening the party and driving it left.

Hold your elected officials accountable and things will work out ok.

I'm confused. Which amendment was that again?

LOL - apparently it's the 11th commandment.

"It's a harmless phrase"

Now we see sinkspur's true colors. He believes in the UN!

“Now, we can see a new world coming into view. A world in which there is the very real prospect of a new world order. In the words of Winston Churchill, a "world order" in which "the principles of justice and fair play ... protect the weak against the strong ..." A world where the United Nations, freed from cold war stalemate, is poised to fulfill the historic vision of its founders.” GHWB 1991

This woman has been trashed in every sense of the word.

Such as? Ann Coulter was over the top as is her style but that is her style. Did you decide to vote for the democrats because Ann Coulter trashed them in an over the top manner?

Who else has trashed her? Pretty much all I've seen is pointing out lack of conventional qualifications and cronyism.

"There most certainly WAS Conservative talk radio, when O'Connor was nominated. There were also Conservatives pundits and columnists ( all of whom are still around ); none of which went nuts on O'Connor."

NOT nearly in the quantity in which it exists today.

And there was no internet so people weren't as mobilized as they are today either.

There were Conservatives who thought O'Connor was a mistake.

But now after living with the repercussions of the SC mistakes of Reagan and other presidents, we do not want them repeated.

"Hold your elected officials accountable and things will work out ok."

If only holding the elected officials accountable meant that we don't have to tear apart the entire GOP..which is what has been happening. It's stupid and non productive.

Write your Senator..make honest, respectful TV ads but don't give me this "Bush should be impeached" crap some have been spreading.

I did not know that. I wonder if Senate Dems have the stomach to filibuster against him, though, since he seemed to have friends on both sides of the aisle...

"The base is still clearly in Miers court"

Most of the conservative base is not. And certainly NOT on FR.

"I would have been much more likely to go along with all the cries to speak to the Senators about giving a thumbs down if it hadn't been for the fact that the trash talk was so over the top in the beginning."

Regardless of what anyone else says, or how they choose to argue their case, I have to stick with what I believe.

Most conservatives opposing Miers did not present their arguments the way you disliked. It was a minority of people.

Man, you'll try anything to tar the opposition. Who, beside some people behind an anonymous keyboard, has called for the President's impeachment on this issue?

That's just silly. Of course she's a Republican. And, conservative as well.

Just not to your satisfaction.

Then blame Bush for setting up a party civil war. He didn't have to make such a devisive pick, but he did.

As I pointed out before, tearing apart the party isn't always a bad thing - in fact it is very much preferable to allowing it to lose it's way. There was a battle between Ford and Reagan and it turned out ok. The party also survived the Bush 41/Perot war.

I don't care if the party is weakened if the party is going in the wrong direction.

That's what you get when you have someone who shoots their allies in the foot....the base doesn't like it plain and simple.

Logic doesn't matter in most peoples initial reaction and the trash pundits have really done the conservative movement a disservice if they think the same tactics they use on liberals will work on conservatives.

That's over 53% in the camp for hearings even after all the media coverage. Why do you think they have to come out with TV ads if they think they are winning?

Logic is your friend.

***

Well, if we are getting "logical," then let's do a little comparison between the 1st poll and the 2nd one.

They "need more info" group dropped 16%.

Of that 16%, 1% went to yes.

15% went to NO.

Now who did you say was winning the argument again????

Again, what pundit besides Coulter has "trashed" Miers? Coulter is Coulter and people tend to know that it is her style to go over to top just for effect.

I have read several opinion pieces from other pundits and none have "trashed" her.

I ask, who else has trashed her?
