Top Bush Supporters Set to Launch Anti-Miers Ad Campaign

A 30-second TV ad is set to air tomorrow, Wednesday, that some believe may be as effective at helping stop the Harriett Miers confirmation as the Swift Boat ads were in helping stop John Kerry.

BetterJustice.org, a conservative grass-roots organization, created and funded the hard-hitting anti-Miers (but pro-Bush) ad. The organization's board of directors includes several otherwise staunch Republican stalwarts, such as David Frum and Linda Chavez.

"Miers is no more qualified to sit on the Supreme Court than I am to be a sumo wrestler!" So stated the so very un-sumo-like Ann Coulter.

"And the power of the Senate to reject her."

Well yeah, that too.

I'm not the one who's questioning somone's authenticity or condemning their genuineness regarding their conservatism simply because their opinion differs from my own or many other's general understanding of conservative principles and values.

ROFLMAO.

Rats gotta love this stuff! Conservatives got the guns aimed at the deck, it saves the Rats the trouble.

Patriotic, America-first, American conservatives do, as well; what good is saving a party if the country is sinking?

What this is about is certain people wanting to prove how superior their principles are.

You mean the principle of having a qualified and proven CONSERVATIVE Supreme Court Justice on the Supreme Court?

I'm supporting Miers because I support the Constitution and the President's right to nominate a Christian woman if he decides to.

And from what do we know in what way Miers supports the interpretation of the constitution? Conservatives are concerned about her interpretation and for those case laws upon which she will become a part become law of the land.

There were more highly qualified female litigators.

I'd venture to guess that if he searched long enough the president could probably have found a few female contract attorneys that were better qualified for this seat as well.

A very reasoned response of how you feel and where you have put your trust and faith.

then you would still only have 53% of FReepers in favor of Miers.

And are you going to sit here and tell me why that isn't a MAJORITY?

Let's do it Romper Room style so you can understand it.

More people at one of the most conservative sites on the internet are NOT against her.

You still lose.

LET THE LADY SPEAK!!!

Seriously, what do you expect her to say? That she will not be a judicial activist? Do you think that applicants ever embellish and just say what their interviewer wants to hear during an interview?

She has no track record to indicate how good of a judge she will be and what she will base her decisions on. This is too important of a job to just wing it.

"Top Bush Supporters"

Where ..?? If you look at their website, there is not one person listed who is a "TOP" Bush supporter.

As usual, the media is lying!

40 percent ON THIS forum.

Let's not overstate the importance of that.

I agree with you.

I'm wondering what happened to their principles of "Every nominee deserves and up or down vote, and a fair confirmation hearing" etc. ......

"Just watch the ads. The intent will be to portray Miers as a dunce."

Time for Miss Miers to say a few words to the American people?

Quotes From some of her writings ..

"Even as early as the first semester in law school, aspiring students notice that there is something different about studying law. Phi Beta Kappa undergraduate performance does not translate into sure success in law school. Much study and even technical understanding of the rules do not ensure high marks. Other qualities are necessary elements of success. For example, excelling law students show the ability to understand and advocate both sides of a controversy, the facility to spot issues with legal significance in complicated fact situations, adaptability, an aptitude for persuasion, and importantly, judgment. These criteria for academic performance are new to most students, but are clear signal that law is a different discipline---one that cannot be characterized as purely a science." Texas Bar Journal '93

She sounds like she has high standards to me..

Thank you for reposting my concerns about Miers dubious qualifications to serve as Justice of the Supreme Court of the Unites States.

It's a three front war. The border war against the invasion up the gut is just as serious as the other two.

"I just cannot get over Bork, who couldn't get himself on the Court, criticizing this nomination."

Why? Bork was a legal giant who was derailed by a concerted lib attack machine. He thinks it's important for an SCJ to have more qualifications than Ms. Miers. Why is that hard to get over?

Parties exist to win elections. The GOP lost.

Which is exactly what we've been doing, thank you very much.

Stop blaming the competition and fix the party.

The party will continue to win, even without those of you who might just take your vote and leave. Again.

The bottom line is that the Meirs supporters like to believe themselves being loyal to GWB and the party by supporting this nomination. But what they are doing is enabling mediocrity, picking friends over qualified people, and preferring people keep their views quiet so that no one knows they are conservative.

Are these people any different than the liberals who try to hide in the closet from the L word? Most conservatives I know are damn proud to call themselves conservative and know excatly where and why they stand on issues.

Many of the bots have no core beliefs, only that they support the GOP. Medicare Drug Bill, CFR, Immigration, Spending, all come to mind as these are things not even Clinton could have accomplished.

More people at one of the most conservative sites on the internet are NOT against her.

Yet you ignore that only about 32% have actually come out in favor of the nomination while 44% have come out against it. Only 16% are unsure and need more information.

You do realize that only 1 in 3 have actually stated that they definitely favor the nomination, right?

...He is being pushed into a corner. He may not pick a conservative that the conservatives want. He would be painted as a pawn to special interests and thats what some of the anti Mier hit squad looks like to me...

:) oh I see, so you want to fight, huh?

You know, the most interesting thing is that both "groups" want the SAME THING!... that is the irony of the whole thing. Now you mention Libby and Rove... and frankly, if there is something there... well I don't even want to think about it because, it-would-be-bad... but I am hoping for the best...

I saw Schummer last night - of all people! - DEFENDING GWB... Schummer for God's sake! - saying the president "would not back down to please some right wing group... because He knew, the president never backs down from a fight!!!"

HELLO?.... WHERE AM I?... Am I actually hearing this, or just going crazy? What's going on here people??????
