Top Bush Supporters Set to Launch Anti-Miers Ad Campaign

A 30-second TV ad is set to air tomorrow, Wednesday, that some believe may be as effective at helping stop the Harriett Miers confirmation as the Swift Boat ads were in helping stop John Kerry.

BetterJustice.org, a conservative grass-roots organization, created and funded the hard-hitting anti-Miers (but pro-Bush) ad. The organization's board of directors includes several otherwise staunch Republican stalwarts, such as David Frum and Linda Chavez.

"Miers is no more qualified to sit on the Supreme Court than I am to be a sumo wrestler!" So stated the so very un-sumo-like Ann Coulter.

"Those who are conservative," meaning, once again I see, that those who DON'T have a problem with Bush aren't conservative.

My God, are you always this dense and obtuse?

Look at the FR poll - last I looked around 40% of members opposed the nomination. Do you think that none of these people are conservative?

Look at the overwhelming number of conservative pundits that are against this nomination and the out of control spending of Bush and the GOP. Are they not conservative either?

There are reasons why conservatives are disappointed with Bush. If you want to play word games and avoid the point then be my guest.

It may, but these uber-conservatives have now sunk to attacking Miers personally, and a national television ad campaign is just downright mean.

The TV ad is not "mean". It just quotes Bork and Limbaugh criticizing the nomination. It is not a personal attack on Miers.

Their attempt to destroy a human being is despicable.

If the people you call the "uberconservatives" set out to destroy someone, they could do a hell of a lot better than this.

Do you think that Miers expected to be nominated, or even thought that she deserved to be nominated? She knows perfectly well how unlikely a candidate she is. It cannot possibly "destroy" her to hear others point out her lack of qualifications for the job. She knows perfectly well that she lacks the usual qualifications.

You do realize, don't you, that the very same thing can be said about you, right?

(1) I'm not the president.
(2) How am I throwing a temper tantrum? Is lobbying the Senate to reject her a temper tantrum?

"And the lunatic fringe of the lunatic fringe has NO say in this matter."

Apparently you forgot about that little thing called the first amendment.

Other than the Cigar, what was the difference? For pete's sake, the two of them are paling around now in a golf cart around the world. Are you so naive to believe that the two of them are that dissimiliar? Why do think GHWB never criticized Clinton and the two are pals now?

Clinton should be in jail, but that does not mean that "our side" should always get a pass either.

Actually, I'm more realistic and honest about it than you are.

I realize that there are a lot of people on this forum further to the right than I am and I don't pretend otherwise.

...He is being pushed into a corner. He may not pick a conservative that the conservatives want. He would be painted as a pawn to special interests and thats what some of the anti Mier hit squad looks like to me....

By the way, this is all in friendly manner ok? - no fighting here :)

BUT, if GWB did that... that would mean, he does not respect us at all. I almost wish he will be "pushed into a corner," to know once and for all how do does feel/think about us. And by the way, ARE WE JUST ANY "SPECIAL INTEREST?" group? Are we?... is that we are? a bunch of "hard core right wing wackos?"I don't think so, I dont'feel that way at all. I know about LOYALTY! He is the one I don't think understand that concept to me and to many, many, who have worked so hard, for many years for this moment of finally tilting the SC to the right, even if only a little.

There has not been ONE objection to Miers based upon principles only underhanded, empty headed whines that she is not "pretty" enough.

That's bull.

It cannot possibly "destroy" her to hear others point out her lack of qualifications for the job.

You haven't been reading FR for three weeks, have you?

Or reading Ann Coulter's personal remarks? Or Mark Levin's? Or Frum's?

There's a whole bunch of silent conservatives out in the heartland who are watching the effete crusaders escalate their attempts to drive Miers out of the process, to deny her a hearing.

There could very well be some blowback with this latest stunt.

Nope, he isn't.

See comment #127 for my reply to that bizarre interpretation of Article II.

Well - what do you call someone who supports race-based quotas????

Is that liberal or conservative in your view?

Is lobbying the Senate to reject her a temper tantrum?

So is it okay for you to do it, but not Bush?

If Bush loses this "struggle," do you think HE should take his "vote" and go home and desert you?

And the power of the Senate to reject her.

Then let the Senate reject her. This concerted effort to beat her down so that she quits is unseemly.

As for me, the Supreme Court issue is spiritual not political because I see the court as the primary cause for this country becoming anti-God on the order of how Europe has “evolved”.

With Clarence Thomas, the huge objection was that he believes the Declaration of Independence informs the Constitution. Can’t have that and be European, you know – since the DoI makes it clear that life, liberty and the pursuit of happiness (usually taken to include ownership) are inalienable, endowed by the Creator, i.e. can’t be “messed with”. And the court has put itself in the high capacity of determining and dispensing of such rights.

So I prayed. And not just me – but many others like me. We lifted the Supreme Court up to God and asked Him to heal it – for His name’s sake and for our sake. Now, having believed that He heard our prayers and answered them according to His own will, we praise Him and wait patiently.

So Miers is not agnostic but a born-again Christian. Praise God! We need Light on the bench, not more verbal gymnastics.

So Miers is seen as a light weight in a battle to the death of political ideologies. Praise God! David was just a shepherd boy.

So Miers is hated not so much for what she has done but for fear of what she might do or not do. Praise God! So was David.

So Miers is loathed not only by her enemies but also by her closest allies. Praise God! So was David.

So Miers is seen as not having the right credentials to meet the standards of the intelligentsia. Praise God! Jesus was a carpenter, a Galilean for pity’s sake – not at all up to the standards of the Pharisees.

Obviously, I see God’s hand in this because of the very nature of the reaction to this nomination.

Secular Republicans and Democrats will support or oppose her for whatever reason. And, sadly, some Christian supporters of Bush will oppose her because they want their own will to be done.

Nevertheless, those of us who support her because we believe God and always saw the issue as a spiritual matter and not a political one will be praising God no matter whether she is confirmed or not. Either way, He is attending this nomination and we will not have been found in the position of having taken our burden to Him and then not trusting Him with it.

Because of the efforts of "conservatives," we got 8 years of Bill Clinton.

We got 8 years of Bill Clinton because the GOP is inept. GHWB didn't care if he lost, and Bob Dole, bless his heart, I love the man, just did not create the kind of steam that gets votes.

Um, that still means that almost 60 percent either approve or are waiting for the hearings.

On one of the most conservative forums on the internet.

Do you think none of that 60 percent is conservative, or are they just not conservative "enough" for you?

Huh? The orginal poster said that if Miers doesn't make it through that Bush would just nominate others that were even worse as a form of payback. That is what I referred to as a temper tantrum.

If Bush wants to lobby the Senate for Miers then he can have at it. I do wonder though why he can't exhibit the same energy to lobby congress to cut spending or to make the tax cuts permanent.
